The folk museum bit is more interesting than the house. To be honest I got a lot more fascinating insight into the life of Anne Lister from half and hour with Google than two hours here. Mostly the information details how the rooms have changed over the years. But the interesting story of how a woman lived with another woman as her partner and managed a huge estate is largely absent. A very missed opportunity.
Really enjoyed my visit. It was lovely to see the place so well looked after, and by so many passionate staff/volunteers. The Hall is fascinating, as are the exhibits in the stables etc. Excellent value for money. Well worth the visit.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
Very beautiful area. The museum itself is great to wander around and is steeped in history. We went on a bank holiday and it wasn't too busy plenty of parking; 3 car parks to chose from although two were up/down steep hills, it has plenty of walks and woodland walks and beautiful views. Theres also a land train, which wasn't expensive and a lake with rowing boats. The barn and outside area of the museum was an added bonus. Signage to the museum and car parks weren't great, and the sat nav/postcode doesn't help much.
After finishing Gentleman Jack, I knew i had to make a quest to visit Shibden Hall! The place had very friendly staff, everything was clearly marked with lots of information and fun facts. The park was lovely and spacious, with a river full of ducks! Ideal for a cosy walk around or you can even hire a boat with your mates or family! I will definitely go back and explore more if this wonderful estate.
Loved it. Great guides, loads of information. This lady Ann Lister was a superstar. Well worth a visit.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
Fab place to visit just outside of Halifax with house and extensive grounds. Weather permitting a good day out. The £10 entrance fee to the house is well worth it with lots to see and informative volunteers. Very interesting. Watch the video about Anne Lister. Go equipped with cash for car park or like us you will spend 10 mins faffing around downloading a payment app etc!!
I have visted Shibden Hall twice now and have absolutely loved it both times. I am a huge history and architecture fan so this is a real treat. It is very informative of live in the bygone days with plenty to see and interest you.Visited onWeekendWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
Dates back around 600 years and full of very interesting period items. As well as the house there are stables and work areas. Highly recommend this place including the grounds which are really nice. There's a train ride £2.50 each duck ponds rowing boats cafe fair ground etc. Great family fun for 2 to 3 hours.Visited onWeekendWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
We visited Shibden Hall 7th March. It was so much more than we expected. Fantastic and all original in this amazing house. Lots of information points and the staff just incredible in their knowledge . Make sure you also visit all of the pit houses too. Cannot wait to return and enjoy the wider grounds on a brighter day.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedYes
Having visited this beautiful park over 50 years, it is still such a wonderful place to visit. Most visitors respect its beauty and tranquility, which is credit to them all. Parking cost is about to be hiked up again by the greedy Council thus, making it difficult for families to visit who are poverty stricken in declining, oppressive dictatorship Britain. Escapism for people is paramount but, costs limit people's freedom to do so.
