Too long a walk from the train, then to the furthest away section of the SEC, then shuffling round written information before getting into the room where the magic happens. People with disabilities but not in wheelchairs would find it impossibly disheartening.nAs to the event itself it was great. A mix of portraits blinking, petals fluttering in the breeze and images segueing into others while music played was worthwhile.nI was amazed that so many young children were there and can only surmise that they didn't have to buy tickets...
Huge event complex in the middle of Glasgow on the river shore. You can organise all kind of event here. They have a large bistro section, Morrisons has a shop inside. It is a maze, you can easily get lost. Lucky there are staff all over, guiding you.
Saw Alice Cooper on stage here. The venue is great in terms of acoustics, seating room and views. What let's this place down is the price of drinks. Over £7 for a pint. Apparently you're meant to exchange the plastic cup for a £1 but there was nowhere open to do this after the gig.
I attended the 82nd World Science Fiction Convention, Glasgow 2024 here from 8-12 August 2024. I assisted with Move In on August 7 and set up my exhibit called Glasgow Around the World with my co-worker. I also participated in the Masquerade on Saturday August 10, and attended the Hugo Awards in the Armadillo on Sunday August 11. A special concert held at Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum on August 7 was also a highlight of the convention. An opera, Morrow's Isle, was also premiered at the Armadillo on Thursday August 8. The SEC was a fantastic location for this event, and was well worth my travelling from Canada to attend. I also enjoyed several meals at the SEC, especially in the ClydeBuilt Restaurant. Be prepared to pay for purchases by electronic means, as most SEC locations do not take currency from any country, even UK pounds or euros.
Great stall, it was very busy, though. arena lovely and clean, and we really appreciated the wee free bus from the car park to arena, much appreciated!!! Within the venue they could do with more seats. Note to self take our own sandwiches and have early lunch to get a seat!! Good day though!!
