We went for Valentines Day last year and had a really great time. Hill is a little steep so wear flat shoes. Went to see the Pandas and weren't disappointed as both the male and female came out to say hello. You do have to wait to see them though as they are the main attraction at the zoo. Loads of other animals to see especially the sun bears who were very active that day and the penguins are fun if not a tad on the smelly side!! Great day all round

For a zoo close to the city centre, Edinburgh Zoo is surprisingly large and has an impressive selection of animals. It's the only place in the UK with giant pandas and koala bears, both of which are very worth seeing. With the exception of a few parts, the zoo is mostly outside and on a hillside, so wrap up warm if you're going in winter. The zoo is great for people of all ages, there are plenty of cafes and places to stop with a packed lunch, and the penguin parade is really charming if you're there early afternoon.

We visited in the late afternoon and saw some of the shy animals during feeding. Always a few new animals, as well as favourites, to encourage repeat trips. Chimpanzees were especially awesome. Several options for food, although more open up in the summer/holidays. A couple of good climbing frames for the children to burn off any left over energy after climbing the hill!

Good zoo. Not much to see as a lot of exhibits were closed. Nice walk round the zoo though. Is a bit hilly so bear that in mind when walking round. Would probably be better in more peak times as things would be open and more to see. Having the giant pandas there was a plus though as rare to see them. We caught a glimpse as they were popping out. :) We would go again but at a better time of year.7

Animals are marvellous and well set up. It's encouraging to see conservation successes. Play park is a hit once flamingos, penguins and monkeys have been exhausted. Volunteers are very knowledgeable and friendly. Chinese Lanterns were wonderful, if pricey. Food is very hit and miss and not cheap. They never seem to have got service figured out in the food courts. Bigger one was in need of a good clean too when looking below table level. It's a fun day out but not a cheap one though worth saving for.
