The Royal Oak is a lovely countryside pub. A perfect stop after a walk on the Downs. It has enough parking and loads of space for kids / dogs to run around while you sit in the shade and enjoy a drink. They serve food too, although we didn't try it this time. We'll be back for sure.
Lovely beer gardens, very welcoming. Great food and drinks.
I have visited this pub for real ale and meals with friends regularly over several years despite living some distance away. We return because the beer and home-prepared food are always of a good standard. The staff are friendly and they play interesting music. The building and location are lovely which makes it one of the best country pubs in the county.
This is a gem on the edge of Bromyard Downs in Herefordshire and well worth a visit. We always find a warm welcome from the hosts. The beer is well kept with plenty of other choice. Good home cooked food reasonably priced and more than enough choice to suit your tastes. There's a flagstoned area which is dog friendly, or choose the area by the log fire, or the quiet restaurant if you prefer. I've recently held my leaving do here and they were so helpful and very accommodating. The curry was just perfect! I travel an hour to get here and I'm very happy to do so, it's special. Please use it or you'll lose it and that would be a real shame.
Had a nice pint sitting outside in the sunshine. Can't comment on the food.
Visited here a number of times for various occasions, as a family and as a couple. We have sampled the lunchtime menu and the evening menu and the food is delicious, tasty home cooked meals every time. Staff are friendly and welcoming and service is excellent. It's a rustic and calming atmosphere set on the Bromyard downs with views of the Malvern hills. Our 2 children feel welcome and are happy with the facilities and love the food, which is fantasy, particularly as one of our sons is autistic and it's rare for him to feel calm when he visits unfamiliar places. I would highly recommend visiting this beautiful place which is suitable for all. Thank you for your warm hospitality. See you again soon
Excellent food very promptly served and very welcoming staff. We were on holiday in Bromyard this August, and first used this pub on the 23rd, and we enjoyed it so much we came back on the 27th. We cannot recommend this pub highly enough!
We visited yesterday, 4 adults, 1 child and 1 baby. When I called to book table the lady was very friendly and when we arrived the table had been set us as I had asked, in fact we wanted to move tables and that was not a problem, the young girl behind the bar was very nice. We ordered food, 2 ploughman’s, a baguette, sausage and mash for child and chicken burger. Bearing in mind there were only 2 hot meals we aired over an hour for the food, which then turned out to be disappointing, the ham on the ham and Stilton ploughman’s was pre packed and the salad was a very poor attempt. When we asked the “manager” small bald guy why we had waited so long his reply was “you can see we are busy by the number of cars in the car park, and it does state on the website you can wait up to an hour” there were 3 other couples in the pub at this time, and the cars were probably belonged to the staff, and nowhere does it state in the website about waiting an hour for food. I then pointed out to my husband, as trivial as it’s seems that it did state the ploughman’s should have come with crisps, so when he went to pay at the bar and was asked if our meals we ok he broached this with the manager. I then went to the loo to hear him mocking us to another customer, I had also heard him earlier in the visit slagging off another customer whose order had come out wrong, blaming the customer only to be told by his kitchen staff that it had been their mistake in fact! He then bought 2 packets of crisps over to us before we left and told us there would be no charge! I should think not considering we had already paid for them as part of our meal. Overall I would not recommend the manager was rude and clearly could not take any negative feedback without becoming aggressive, and the food was mediocre.
A proper pub that serves great food, not some pretentious place trying to be something it isn't. The Royal Oak is a warm, comfortable place run by friendly people serving good beer and excellent pub food. All the pub classics you would expect, at very reasonable prices.
Six of us when for a lunchtime sandwich between Christmas and New Year. The sandwiches were excellent and the prices competitive. Only 4 stars instead of 5 because there was only one member of staff performing the role of waitress and serving behind the bar so service was a little slow.
