I took my Son to speak to the Navy representative this morning having made an appointment earlier in the week. We were eventually seen 15 minutes post our appointment time by the Navy rep who had allegedly 'not been notified of our attendance'. He shook my Son's hand but gave me little acknowledgement in the career discussion. He had constant eye contact with my Son over a desk which was almost a glare and spoke in a curt almost arrogant manner. He discussed engineering 'Cat A, cat B, cat C etc ....' which was not aimed at a 15 year old and I had to add that I felt the information was unhelpful. We wished to learn more about the recruitment process but I felt this Navy rep found me a nuisance rather than trying to support my Son in his career decision. In the office, I noticed the Marine rep openly discussing recruitment options with Mum, Dad and Son in a relaxed manner but unfortunately the Navy rep was found to be rude and curt. Both my Son and I came away from this meeting feeling disappointed and although my Son is really keen to still join the Navy, I feel one with a more personable approach and improved interpersonal skills may be of benefit to your recruitment drive.
