Fantastic golf course which was far tougher than I expected. Lovely clubhouse and very welcoming staff.
Absolutely amazing experience, we played Monday afternoon of Open week. The staff Elaine in booking, Phil in the clubhouse particularly were warm and welcoming. We actually read the information they sent ahead of time so we knew to get the full experience we couldn’t wear shorts in the clubhouse. We asked about the first tee from the tips and he walked us over there, gave a little history lesson and we played from there. I was so happy that I hit the ball the best I had in years, certainly worth a visit.
Fabulous place and a challenging course, love it! G8 course in pristine condition although the tees need tlc. Catering staff was excellent and the history of the club house is definitely worth exploring.
Obviously this is a championship course, and is everything you would expect from a golf course of such standing. For full disclosure I play here as a guest, not a visitor which has a very different cost, and my review is from this perspective. On this particular day we had ‘proper’ links weather. Strong and changeable winds made what is already a good test of a golf, a tough test. I am thankful that with it being winter months the rough was not as high as it would have been in the summer. When you play here, and other championship courses, you are constantly reminded of the history and events that have taken place; you’re walking history as you navigate the holes. It can be distracting from you own game at times, as you become a tourist for a moment, however, this is part of the pleasure of playing here. For a visitor these courses are not cheap, but there are not many sports where you can play in exactly the same places as the professionals. Try and get a game on centre court at Wimbledon and see how far you get! Clubhouse is welcoming, food, beer and service are as you would expect, first class.
Amazing course AlroundA lot off history has been made Over the years on this piece off Land. Played ere a Couple off Times’ Off The Red Tees An Green tees It makes it Play Like 2 different courses’ Friendly Staff’ Great Clubhouse: Practice putting Green Is As Good as the real-ones As the practice will be needed-Big An pure Greens/Top Condition
One of the great experiences in golf, from the course, to the clubhouse ... and also the members who made us very welcome. A slightly more quirky front 9 with great strategy involved, is followed by a slightly more straightforward back 9 where the ball needs to be threaded between the numerous fairway pot bunkers. The iconic 18th makes for a great finish in front of the resplendent clubhouse. Take time to breathe in the history in the clubhouse as well. We were made to feel very welcome from the pro shop, to the hall porter, to the clubhouse and bar.
Great course with great history attached. Green fees are top end but it’s one to tick off your bucket list For pure golfing experience hillside was better
Really great links golf course. Stayed at the dormy house just next to the club house, and would really recommend this and play the course for two rounds. It's a true challenge with a lot of bunkers, so nice to have a second go the day after. Friendly staff, and good food in the club house restaurant. Will definately come back one day.
Very nice course not as good as I thought it would be compared to others courses in the region but what I found most annoying was the lady in the halfway house telling us about our speed of play not as though we was keeping any players behind waiting we where actually waiting for the players in front at times how very rude when we paid so much for the green fees
Always great to play this great Open course. Watch out for the 174 bunkers! Hole 8 a favorite of mine.
