Local villages pub to which made me feel so welcome and the atmosphere was great considering that there was no more than 6 people in. But it was a nice pint and the food is very good, homemade food included pies, and pizzas etc. Its perfect for all, I would say it resembles to a proper public house that seems to be hard to find these days. Lovely place in a gorgeous village with really nice locals.
Stayed here last year while on a 3 day walk down the River Wear. Great beer and friendly staff with good crack. We arrived on fish and chip night - fish chips and a beer for £9. Great value!
Me and my partner visit this pub each time we visit her brother in law. We can bring our dog, Tia in and she loves the owners, who will usually have some dog tests for her. There is usually some different ales on tap each time we visit and Scott is happy for us to try them first before committing to a pint. In winter they have the fire going which is amazing when you roll in after a long walk. Go visit, have a drink, and then another...
Thanks Ken for the hospitality, also when some of our lads cycling c2c wmwere running a bit late, you went out in your van to make sure they were OK, and also made sure the had a hot meal, even know the time for the meals had finished Rooms: 5/5
cosy local pub in the winter with raring log fires. When the weather improves is full of walkers and cyclists doing the C2C route as Rookhope is the ideal stop off point. Decent beer and not bad food with good portions.
Stopped here during C2C but unfortunately you never know what you are going to get until you arrive as you can only book this accommodation directly with the owner. If you pay £80 per night you should expect to have a clean room with clean towels, shower which doesn't leak all over the bathroom floor, a clean pub and also staff who take pride in their work. Personally I like nothing better than a good English pub with good food and accommodation which sadly this was not. The food was edible but again no pride taken in its preparation for the price. Beer ok and fairly priced - but had very limited snacks behind the bar. Overall, very poor for the money and would suggest if you can get to Stanhope that would give you more options for accommodation. Price should be closer to £50 for the standards offered.
Very welcoming pub ideally placed for lunch on a bike ride or as the last night of the Caost-to-Coast. Staff friendly and helpful, lovely comfort food and good beer. Big change from the previous management!
Scott, Kenny and the rest of the team were super acommodating, served good home made food and know how to have a laugh which was needed after a hard day riding part of the C2C. The rooms were really dated though so expect basic and youll be fine.Rooms: 2/5
Only had a cuppa as we were cycling but staff were lovely. We will visit again for a beer.
