Service when busy is really slow. After waiting 15 mins to get to the front of the queue, was told it would be another 15 for a special fish supper. Informed that I should have shouted across that I wanted a special fish as soon as I arrived, although there are no signs or any indication that this should be done. Left with nothing as I was tired of waiting. Not impressed.

Avoid. Expensive given the low quality and greasy fish. Be warned that you have to pay for sauce. Customer service is a concept lost on the staff. It looks good on the outside but best to keep driving.

Decent but can get very busy indeed at peak times. Food is good with a varied menu. Pizzas are made in the restaurant next door which are really good.

Romy’s should be a whole lot better. The problem, to me, seems to be in the fish. 1. If you ask for a fish supper it won’t be haddock. Something else, not advertised. 2. The fish is frozen before frying (watch them take it out before dipping) 3. The fish is stacked deep in the hot-plate after frying. The result is fish whose texture is ruined (more like a low-quality fish finger than anything else), which is dry as a bone and can be flat as skin. The price is low. Too low, in my view, to allow a quality product. The area can afford a lot more: give us the quality we want and let us pay for it. For me, they’d do a lot better to: I) default to haddock as “fish supper” The non-descript cheaper white fish should be another menu item specially-requested. II) stop freezing (you can’t commit to fresh? Surely the core of any quality fish & chip shop), or properly defrost before frying to protect the texture III) stop stacking the fish so deep in the hot plate. People don’t mind waiting a couple of minutes for the supper. We don’t want to wait for chips - we will gladly wait for quality fresh and freshly-fried haddock suppers. Best in Bearsden? No doubt because pretty much only in Bearsden. Locally, go to Milngavie (if open) or Chip Chick Inn in Maryhill. Neither outstanding but both superior to Romy’s. Passing through the Hillfoots (as opposed to Hillfoot), stop at the Bridge Cafe. You’ll be happy you did. Anywhere on East coast, take your pick. But don’t bother with Romy’s unless they get their act together.
