Great place with vegan and meet options on the menu. American style breakfast is tasty and filling, the burgers are really good. Two tables outside on quite a busy street if you want to enjoy the sunshine. The staff could be friendlier, at peak times they seem too busy to stop and chat.
This place always used to be so good when I was younger. I am guessing it has changed hands in that time. There was nobody in the cafe so they were all outside smoking; how inviting. Service was so slow even though we were the only ones in there. The only waitress in there didn't hear our order right so we got the wrong food and she can hardly walk. I got a tuna sandwich and it had bones in it which is a little scary. Thank God the price was low but that really reflects on the quality of service and food. It does make me sad.
Great ham egg and chips! Regularly go here v nice cafe. Vegan and vegetarian options. Pancakes a speciality. Update 14th Sept 18 .. tried going here a few times recently and was closed when usually open. Sign on door says owners might reopen. Please do as you were doing a great job!!!! NOW CLOSED. Blinking shame :
Average food that the lovely retro decor can't make up for. We were told there were no burgers as the delivery didn't come, meaning pre made patties, and the chefs political views, and struggles with a basic menu could be heard throughout the dining area. 5 other cafes within a minute's walk.
Really love the.food and atmosphere here. They have a real jukebox and they have the best selection of burgers. Theres even vegan options everywhere. They do a BYOB on some Friday evenings which is really cool.
Stopped in for drinks today, great place, very friendly and looks fantastic
This place looks fabulous and I love the service and the jukebox. But the milkshakes were dreadful...the thin, lukewarm, banana flavoured drink I had was appalling. McDonald's do better shakes.
Always like this backstreet cafe. Wheel chair accessible. Good bacon sarnie. Vegetarian options. Friendly staff. Been back recently and sign on door says place is shut but might reopen. Please do! You had a good thing going here :
Rock Ola is adjoined to an equally charming record shop and has all the accoutrements of a "retro" cafe: Rickety but functioning jukebox, 50s style leatherette booths and icons from Brigitte Bardot to Kate Bush adorning practically every space on the wall. It's delightfully kitsch, right down to the Betty Boop salt and pepper shakers. The food is just as unpretentious as the cafe, so kind of like a greasy spoon crossed with an American diner. Expect burgers, sandwiches, fried breakfasts and thick milkshakes. This is Brighton after all, so vegetarians and vegans are very well-catered for. It's also cheap as chips. Maybe it's because I'm a Londoner, but £1 for a cup of tea seems like a bargain. And I don't think any of the meals are priced over a fiver I've yet to try them, mind. Rock Ola isn't fancy but it does have plenty of character, and that makes it well worth visiting again.
Loved it. Great staff, wonderful vegan breakfast, superb decor and a free jukebox. I'll be back for my next day trip...
