We visited The Rock on a short circular walk from Chiddingstone. We had a great welcome to start with! The food here is as Gordon Ramsey would like it. A small menu, but with a very high quality. We have been here before, and i wanted to return to saviour the excellent pint of cooled prawns. I have a warning though. This pub being small gets very busy, and as such the bar staff do get somewhat flustered. Unfortunately for me I experienced a rather sharp response, when making the food order. Despite this the pub, garden, beer on offer, and the good food deserves a 5 star rating. Because yes I will be returning.
Was very much looking forward to my steak after seeing the beautiful aged meat hanging in the locker, however my steak was so over cooked it was pretty much ruined. On top of that I was over charged. Hugely disappointing. I asked for and eat my steak rare and you can see by the photo that it was medium at best. A real shame as the meat quality was obviously very good, and when you're paying nearly £40 for a 500g not even steak... It really should be cooked to perfection, exactly the way you ask for it. The offer of a free pint didn't really cut the mustard I'm afraid. Not good enough. The chips were excellent though, for an extra cost!! The oysters were also very good, although no lemon is served with them, you get siracha sauce instead. Which is very odd. Beer selection is extremely limited and not great. It's a lovely location, but unfortunately, as much as I'd like to visit again, I definitely won't be coming back.
I really have a soft spot for this pub. Nestled in the countryside, close to the historic village of Penshurst, this local pub is a not to behold. Walking across the threshold takes you back in time to more simpler times - until you see the menu, that is. Great food and atmosphere and a "must visit" for an authentic traditional English pub experience.
A very friendly country pub with a very atmospheric garden. A very well kept pint of Larkins, which went well with the Ploughmans, something I haven't had for ages.
This quintessential English Country pub has delicious food, a particularly friendly service and a very welcoming atmosphere. The roast chicken to share is of amazing free range quality and the roast potatoes are to die for. It easily feeds a family of 4 with all the trimmings. Bloody Brilliant !
Gorgeous old pub with low ceilings, brick floor, huge hearth and corner bar. We had the chicken burger and the mushroom pie - both absolutely delicious, and presented with flair. Friendly staff. Got very busy on a Sunday afternoon with lots of dogs - great atmosphere and a great place for lunch or a drink after a country walk.
Great laid back country pub with incredibly friendly staff and locals!. Unfortunately the food was mediocre, though I'd definitely come back to spend a few too many hours in this cosy establishment. It's dog friendly too!
I discovered this pub thanks to a good friend that took me there and since then I been able to try many different dishes and enjoy the atmosphere We joined 3 supper clubs during December and it was an excellent experience The new landlords are very nice and friendly The food was to die for from grandmas soup , to burger, pheasant , supper clubs , Vietnamese night and dried age beef Bar staff are extremely polite and caring I don’t know how it was run before but I think they have done a great job and also it’s a perfect place where to expend a nice evening by the fire :
Did a lovely walk from Cowden station and duly popped in for a well deserved pint of Larkin's accompanied by a fine lunch. I highly recommend it and if it were more local to me, I'd definitely pop by for one of their interesting looking theme nights / live music.
Good food, friendly service. The place was very busy on Saturday afternoon. If you aren't sure what to order, order the burger.
