A beautiful building, complemented by inside as well. Food was much more than pub grub. It was restaurant quality. The price was a surprise for me. Approx £50 a head for 3 courses and drinks. At that level of food I think it is extremely well priced. There is however an optional 12.5% service charge added to the bill. Personally I'm really not a fan of "optional service charges". Charge me for my food and drink. That covers your costs and should make you a profit. If I feel a tip is deserved, I will give one. That being said. The staff were very nice and attentive. Well worth a tip. My only other gripe would be the car park could do with a touch more lighting. But it's not a major issue. Other than that, I was very pleased with my visit, and would have no hesitation returning and highly recommend it.
Really lovely pub but because someone hadn't booked a chimney sweep in time there was no welcoming warming woodburning stove nor advertised log fire which was disappointing on a chilly wet Saturday evening. Otherwise we all enjoyed a perfect friendly pub stay. A little more expensive than normal but worth the extra. Very comfortable. Recommended. Rooms: Lovely recently refurbished large en-suite modern room, tea & coffee. Nearby activities: Fabulous local Nov 5th fireworks and bonfire! Food & drinks: Excellent food & pub drinks.
Where do I start?! The room was very well furnished and absolutely immaculate. Very comfy and large room with a great big bed! Alas only a bath with a shower head with no fitting to hold it up so a bit of a faff given we didn’t want to have a bath. Small negative but nothing that wouldn’t stop us staying again. £15 charge for allowing the dog to stay; would have been nice to have had a few dog treats or something in the room. The food was outstanding. My wife had the ‘best ever’ cheese soufflé and I had the shortcrust pie. Desserts were also fantastic. Great wine and beer. Breakfast in the morning was superb with quality items and great choice. We throughly enjoyed our stay and the food. Forget to say the staff are tremendous, extremely polite and helpful; they deserve a bonus!
We had lunch with some friends and it was delicious. Good, attentive service and lovely surroundings. You should put a sign for the car park on the front of the building with an arrow as we didn't realise the car park was there. We didn't stay at the hotel.
Great country pub with lovely large rooms, good restaurant and of course a welcoming bar with log fires. Quiet location, large car park.....a perfect place to stop on the way to Cornwall. Highly recommended!Rooms: 5/5
Better than your average pub food served with pride. No problems catering for the person with celiac in our party and their food was prepared with as much care and attention as everyone else. Well worth a visit.
Have come here for many years when visiting family in Sherbourne. But today 27th Dec was different as the waiter put a shadow over our family reunion. We were 12 having a late lunch, his attitude was really unfriendly and every interaction with him seemed hard work, he was in fact bordering on rude. The 2 girls were lovely and the food was great which is why none of us complained. The young man shouldn't be in the pub trade with that attitude.
We always try to time a delicious meal at the Red Lion ever since we discovered it, when we travel on the A303. This time it was a perfect way to end our holiday traveling back home from Heathrow to Exeter. Really good for gluten freeService: 5/5
Stunning menu, beautiful premises, plenty of staff, easy to reserve a table via the website and to get in touch over the phone. Far better than your regular pub Food & drinks: Plenty of options, including light bites, classic pub comforts and an exciting main menu
Clean lovely room and the food was absolutely AMAZING so disappointed eating out but my goodness not had a meal Like this in year top thank you Cheese soufflé and piping hot 10/10
