Dog friendly. No trip to Llangollen would be complete without visiting the Llangollen Heritage Railway. Station is smack bang in the centre of town, can’t be missed and shouldn’t be. Staff and volunteers are incredibly friendly and enthusiastically full of info. You can actually drive a diesel train for £5, called ‘Driver For A Fiver’ fantastic experience for a great cause.
Over the past few years this spectacular railway has suffered from the pandemic, it doesn’t have the steam engines it used to have but the scenery was spectacular. Please help save this heritage railway. We had some information about the engine which was quite a rare diesel engine which has been lovingly restored by volunteers. The staff were friendly and helpful. If you love diesel trains and some steam engines as and when they are available, this is the place for you
We all really enjoyed our trip. Bought a family ticket then upgraded to First Class on the outbound journey. Staff lovely and friendly and helpful. Scenery good as we followed the River Dee, passing Horseshoe Falls. Cafe at Llangollen base provided tasty and reasonably priced food. Would highly recommend this trip.
A blast from the past. Travel along the picturesque Welsh valleys in period railway carriages. Cream tea is an added pleasure. The stations along the way are nicely kept, again in period decor. Vintage porter's trolleys, complete with luggage add to the ambience. Well worth a visit
We had an absolutely fantastic time here! So much care has been taken by the wonderful volunteers and it really does show. On the DMU that we travelled on, we could even see the driver which was so cool! Another passenger was moaning about the price, and I understand it may seem a tad steep but when you consider all of the work and time that goes into maintaining such a place, it's really not that dear at all. Time and money well spent!
Been coming here for 30+ years with my Grandad and now able to take my own daughter and family. So glad this is reopened after lockdown. Must visit, must donate. Keep this place alive for generations to come.
I travelled from Llangollen to Carrog with my mother, husband and dog to celebrate Mum's 88th birthday. We paid £5 extra to travel on the observation carriage which was beautifully restored and well worth the extra money. The guide/ volunteer was really informative and helpful, pointing out places of interest, giving information about the train and showing prime photography places. We had a great trip through beautiful countryside and would highly recommend it.
Lovely trip along the railway and back on a Thursday. No steamy to pull us on our trip which was a shame but I guess they have to cycle the engines. Ice cream / drinks available at the end station. Cracking views all along the route.
Absolutely loved visiting Llangollen for first time, railway was really easy to find and had friendly staff, my daughter loved driving the shunter, cafe was amazing, guy working there was fab, really friendly and apologetic when he had to do multiple jobs while serving, had a bacon and sausage bap, absolutely amazing, daughter had Victoria sponge which tasted fresh and was a big portion, reasonable prices too. Station master was brill with my daughter and she thoroughly enjoyed her day there and can't wait to go back, Brill day all round :-
What a fantastic place, you really feel like you went back in time, with everything just right to the smallest detail. It is run totally by very kind and friendly volunteers. Absolutely must catch a train and experience this fantastic ride
