We recently travel by train from Darwen Station to Bolton for a look round the market. The station has changed a lot since it’s heyday and we miss the old ticket office. We struggled with the new computer for tickets and had a right performance with the ticket men when we arrived in Bolton without tickets. The popular Manchester platform is more of walk from the town centre than the less frequented Clitheroe side. If your not so steady on you’re feet, a slow walker or loaded up with shopping add another ten minutes into your plans.
Was a great traditional station at one time, with proper waiting and utility rooms, but just simple bus type shelters now while waiting for the train
Station is just 2 platforms with ticket machines and shelters but Darwen has kept its historic buildings in the town centre...for the most part.
Car park always full. Rather windy on platforms at any time.
This is home. Lovely walks. Good for commuting. Friendly atmosphere.
Nice day out for tea & lunch and a good walk.
Gotta live somewhere
