Really nice area. One or two steep hills if you are a wheelchair user. City centre is a short distance from the train station. I really like the garden of peace. Sheffield has lots of water sculptures and it seems everywhere you can hear the sound of running water I was impressed by the wall of water outside the train station. The bears in some of the photos are part of a temporary bear spotting trail.
If you’re transiting through Sheffield Station, it’s worth a stop. Get off the sometimes crowded platforms and into the main station. A relatively free flowing space, the main concourse is spacious and has a decent array of shops. More than a few places to grab a snack and it feels open. Outside there is a long and slightly odd water/rain sculpture. The platforms also have a shop or cafe but can sometimes get crowded on one side / be difficult to reach due to the crush at the top.
Clean and tidy even though it was busy for a Sunday. Refreshments are widely available and accessible.
Overall, it is a good station. Several ticket counters and machines and an information desk. It is usually easy to get information about timetables or other changes. The hall itself is medium sized but you will find various food outlets and shops. Access to the platforms is easy by both stairs and lifts. People with disabilities or wheelchairs should have no problem getting there. The platforms themselves are nothing special, for me they could be more modern. There are a few benches to sit on and good signage. The station is also a good transfer point to other destinations such as Leeds or Manchester.
Caught both day and night trains from here. All times i've had great experiences. Trains were for the most part on time with only a couple minutes of delay. Refreshments are commonly available through shops/vending machines and the scenery around the building is kept clean for the public. 10/10 would recommend as a public transportation method
Trains were completely up the f**k as usual, but the lady on the information desk - Julie - was so incredibly helpful. She gave me all the info I needed and even printed off the new journey for me. And when this changed again, she came to find me and another passenger to let us know. Honestly couldn't have wished for a more helpful person on the desk.
The station itself is really good and easy to get around. Step free access is present throughout the station, including to the SuperTram Platforms, however each lift has it's own fault and are aging. City centre isn't a long walk but beware it is quite a steep walk up the first section of hill, however there are some stairs and a lift to assist you with the second section, you have the choice of the outside staircase and lift or the Millennium Gallery's stairs or lift.
Hard to get excited about this place. It is functional and reasonably easy to get around. Best thing here is the Sheffield Tap. Well worth a visit or two. Uphill walk to the City centre and it's not far. Makes for an easy downhill walk back.
It's a functional station with lots of destinations and it's easy to navigate. However, I wish there were more warm / comfortable places to sit down and wait for your train. Also, I would like to see the charges to use the toilet phased out ASAP. Some people have to travel with medical conditions such as IBS or overactive bladder.
A excellent train station a very clean and tidy area plenty to do while waiting for your train or after just arriving. Only niggle is that I could not find a member of staff in the main foyer for help and information but maybe I was not looking hard enough..
