Story

Queens Hotel is a luxury hotel in Southsea, Portsmouth, Hampshire. The current hotel was built in 1903 by the architect T.W. Cutler in the Edwardian baroque style in brown terracotta. It replaced the original Southsea House which had been built by the architect Augustus Livesay in 1861 and gutted by a fire on 8 December 1891. The book England describes the hotel as a "Magnificent Edwardian hotel overlooking the Common, with ornate stone-carved balconies and countless neoclassical decorative flourishes". The hotel contains 74 rooms and has two bars and a restaurant. An episode of Mr. Bean starring Rowan Atkinson was filmed at this hotel in 1992, first aired in March 1993.

An incredible place to relax and enjoy the scenery. Great staff. Quick registration. The room is clean, has everything you need for a comfortable stay for a long time. Safe, refrigerator, iron and ironing board, hair dryer. The location of the hotel is excellent. There is a large field in front of the hotel and it was very interesting during our stay there. The beach is 7 minutes away, which can be reached directly through the field. You can eat in the hotel restaurant or quickly get to other restaurants nearby. There are also museums and a castle nearby.
My wife and I got married at the Queens Hotel back in May. The hotel itself is an old portsmouth staple. Good location, beautiful decor the foyer is stunning lovely garden, nice rooms. Food is excellent, we have sampled the bar and restaurant menus several times and as an ex chef 25 years behind the pass I have always been impressed. But this isn't a review of the hotel itself. This review is for the staff. They are excellent. I've worked with some good crews in my time and the Queens front of house and back of house staff are really very, very good. In particular Lisa, our wedding coordinator. She really knew her stuff. She took a nervous shy couple and made sure the day went perfectly. I honestly could not fault Lisa's efforts, her crew were excellent, front and back of house performed flawlessly. We don't plan on getting married again but if we did we would do it at the Queens. We liked Lisa so much we would happily take her out for drinks. Thank you
We had a lovely Sunday lunch here during the Victorious festival. The food was excellent, complimented by a great bottle of wine and very attentive, friendly service. I love the decor and atmosphere at this hotel, this was our second visit and we will definitely return.Service: 5/5
Lovely old Victorian hotel with a nice bar and great food. Staff were great and friendly. Restaurant was a touch quiet but food was fabulous and staff very attentive but not overly. Rooms were typical victorian hotel style a touch small but very comfortable and very quiet. No aircon but was cool enough in the room. Price was also one of the cheapest I’d found on the night I stayed so really can’t complain. Would recommend for solo travellers and romantic breaks. Good WiFi too in case you want to stream movies.
Staff are always amazing at the Queens hotel and I enjoyed a lovely Afternoon Team with family. Really delicious selection of cakes although missed the lemon posse with decorative real flower and china tea cups and teapots that usually elevate this from others around offering afternoon tea. Thank you for a lovey afternoon Food & drinks: Sunday roast is very special with great ambience with the Jazz player
Beautiful, old school hotel from back in the day when Brits appreciated grandiose over grabby bros. Every single member of staff we encountered was exceptional. They went out of their way to help us - we had two motorbikes they let us park in their secure courtyard. The position, on Southsea Common which is extraordinary and looking out across the Solent to the Isle of Wight, is magnificent. This hotel has restored my faith in the mostly miserable British hospitality industry where nine times out of ten you’re served by kids who know nothing and care less.
We had a lovely one night stay before our hoilday Food and service was amazing . Breakfast service was better then evening service. Room was noisy due to wind which couldn't be helped if u kept window open it was very lond if you shut it .it was whising so didn't sleep well but the bed was so comfortable. Stayed there before and will come again Rooms: Sea view and bed so comfortable Nearby activities: So much to see and do Walkability: A 10 min walk to shops and Southsea just mins in front Food & drinks: So good .but staff better service in morning
A local visit after a day on Southsea Common. A real pleasant surprise. Super motivated staff, serving quickly looking for the customer. A stunning patio new patio area, friendly atmosphere and will visit again. No rating for the rooms as I didn't stay. No reflection on the rooms.Service: 5/5
Lovely public areas, good service particularly in Duke's Bar. However, they do need to crack on and finish the refurbishment. Our room was very tired, along a dark, depressing corridor. Also not quite sure why some of the hotel's garden furniture seemed to have been thrown onto a neighbouring property, clearly visible from our room. Breakfast pricing is simply silly.
Only stayed for rwo nights. Unfortunately no small fridge in the room and although they said there was a safe in the room it wasn't there. The toilet roll was above and behind the toilet. Very awkward. Beautiful sea view from the room. Very easy access by bus. Dinning quite expensive. We ate out lots of restaurants and cafes. Had a very enjoyable break.
