I might as well have done the honorable thing and bought fish and chips by the seaside because Prezzo In Whitstable was a very disappointing experience. Walking through the entrance I felt like i was a liability for whoever was at the front having to seat me and my company, and we felt rushed to make a decision on what to drink and eat. I went for the prawn spaghetti which was for want of a better word... Horrible. £12 something for what tasted like reheated spaghetti in dolmio sauce and just, and I mean just in date shrimp. The garlic pizza bread and olives starter was actually quite nice, its a shame the service and main was so lacklustre.

What can I say, both myself & my partner love Prezzo & this was our first experience in the Whitstable branch, so really looking forward to it as we had a Christmas voucher from BuyaGift to use! From the moment we walked in the staff weren't particularly welcoming & that went downhill very quickly to basically very unwelcoming when we advised we had booked with BuyaGift voucher. The waiter reached into his drawer & slung us a couple of photocopied black & white menus presented in a clear office A4 pouch complete with hole punches for the ring binder (setting the scene for our 'experience') and whisked us off to a table with no view behind the nearest pillar, not asking if this was ok! (At this point the restaurant was virtually empty as only 5pm) We were promptly hurried along with our food order and whilst we understood it was a restrictive menu, due to the voucher, nothing really prepared us for the lacklustre food or service!!! The starters were plonked down, poorly prepared and presented on plates certainly too small for my starter which seemed to have the remains of a chopped up raw tomato on one half & pesto slopped on the other half, along with our drinks. My partner's starter fitted the plate but were two slabs of breaded mozzarella cheese with salad, neither of which resembled anything we've ever had from Prezzo before! These were promptly whisked away by the sullen staff and we were soon brought our highly anticipated mains. My partner had the spaghetti & I ordered the Pizza which I normally love, although the limited choice meant I ordered the tomato & mozzarella which I normally wouldn't... My pizza looked like an Iceland special (or was it Bejam) from the 70's, it was a flat (2D) haze of red & yellow slopped onto a base, which looked much better than the toppings, with what appeared to be no seasoning of any kind, completely no frills. I wasn't offered the option of any additional toppings when ordering, which I would probably have requested and happily paid for. It actually didn't taste as bad as it looked and the crispy base was nice, which was something! Neither myself or partner were offered any parmesan cheese to complement our food before we started either! Whilst we were tucking into our meals, keeping our heads down, the restaurant was starting to get busier and noticed that the same staff were almost tripping over themselves presenting the 'Prezzo' menus on laminated cardboard so big that barely fitted on the tables and being sickeningly polite, perhaps in anticipation for their tip and maybe why they spared any expense to be polite to us as they knew the meal was already paid for...so why bother, it's a done deal!!! We also heard other patrons repeatedly being offered if they would like parmesan cheese grated over their food too! As we tried to finish our mains, of which my partner was struggling with her spaghetti as she was only supplied a knife and fork, no spoon in sight for this dish so it was slopping all over the place! I tried some of hers and have to say, it looked like it was re-heated or a microwave meal not too dissimilar to a variety, this time from Sainsbury's for £2.49, albeit that it didn't taste at all seasoned, so perhaps there's a shortage on seasoning this time of year, although we did have our own Salt & Pepper pots on our table which we were clinging onto for dear life! No faster than our main course was taken away, we were swiftly presented with our photocopied menus in their crinkly wrappers once again, so we didn't get our mucky paws on them for us to choose our deserts and quickly made our selections. We also requested to order another glass of wine each, this time of our choice as a 'PAID' option, so we didn't have to rush and could enjoy the ambience furthermore, still hearing how 'others' were being offered more of the finely grated cheese!!!... Good calzone but the good service went south very quickly. Started off having nice quick service. After mains it took 20 minutes for plates to be collected, 10 more for desert to be offered, 15 more to order desert, desert came in minutes, plate collection 20 mins later and had to go and ask for the bill after waiting another half hour.
