Not Covid crazy with fantastic food and service, really great flavours in the food, great selection of rustic style food, good selection of beers on tap. Following protocols without being intrusive or a nuisance about it.
Slightly mixed review. First of all the decor is amazing. I loved the style and theme throughout. Visited for lunch with a friend. As we were seated we were advised that there was a couple of things they had run out of. No problem at all. Ordered a couple of cocktails between us. Absolutely lovely. Then time to order, we decided on a sandwich each. I opted for Halloumi & Avocado to be told there was no halloumi. A bit disappointed as there was only a couple veggie options and this was the most appealing. However, they were able to substitute the cheese. So all was not lost. I opted to add fries in too. The sandwhich itself was good with a small salad and coleslaw. My friends was not much bigger in portion size but hers was £4 more than mine as she had meat. It was a steep jump I thought personally in comparison, but we are treating ourselves right? I requested a small coke to finish my meal with. We ate and were happily full - the food was very delicious nonetheless. The bill came. We split it in the middle and went on our way. Looking back at the pricing, I added up the two sandwiches and two cocktails. It meant that the difference was £4.... on a small coke. I thought that took the biscuit a little. Other than that, I enjoyed the time spent there. Would I return? Maybe. The menu was very limited - perhaps to do with the pandemic, not sure. But I just felt there wasn’t a great deal of choice. I don’t need pages of options, but a little variation doesn’t hurt.
This was the first time we had eaten here, but it won't be the last. Really enjoyed the small plate menu as lots of variety, and really tasty. Service was excellent and the venue itself is great. It's also dog friendly in the conservatory area.
Visited as a party of 9. The décor was funky and the place is bigger on the inside than what you expect. The food was good - I had the 16oz steak which was cooked beautifully - had it with a side salad instead of with the fries and the salad tasted good. This place is let down by the service. Apart from one of the female waiting staff, the rest seemed quite abrupt, unapologetic when making mistakes, and generally were "unhappy" hence the loss of one star.
Lovely, relaxed atmosphere. Menu looks good. We just had drinks. Delicious New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc and not expensive either. We were not hungry, otherwise we would have eaten. Good mix of all ages.
Amazing place!! We were big group but we were able to sit immediately : Lovely brunch and lovely coffee too :! Good big table and really nice eggs Benedict :!! Definitely recommend !!
We booked the suite for 2 nights to celebrate our anniversary. What a perfect choice it was too. Darwin's Kitchen was easy to find, a short walk from Wyle Cop car park, it also looked just as beautiful on the outside as it did inside. The staff were friendly and welcoming and took us up to our suite. As my husband and I opened the door and walked into our suite room we both wow'd! The room seemingly went on forever and the throws, cushions and artwork made the suite feel cosy and like home. The bed was massive and extremely comfortable. The bathroom was also huge. I highly recommend everyone to upgrade to a suite because for a very small price it is certainly worth it. On our first evening at Darwin's we went downstairs to the restaurant for a meal at our prebooked table. I ordered The Paddington which was "cocktail of the week" and my husband had a pint of Becks. For starters we had whitebait with tartare sauce and the meatballs tagliatelle, both were stunning. For mains we had chicken Kiev with roasted potatoes; and lamb with Shropshire blue mash, the cheese complimented the dish perfectly and my husband said it was the best Kiev he had ever tasted. In the mornings we had a continental breakfast and also ordered a dish from the menu to have with it. The first morning my husband had a bacon brioche bap and I had the eggs Benedict on a toasted muffin. The second morning my husband had a sausage brioche bap and I had poached eggs with crushed avocado on toast. Both breakfasts were delicious and cooked to order. Throughout our whole stay, all the staff were friendly, attentive and welcoming. We cannot thank them enough for making our first anniversary perfect.
Minute steak sandwich. This is a very good lunch. The staff were friendly and helpful. Nice atmosphere. Only reason why I don't give full score is that there is a little to loud and very annoying music going all the time.
Very enjoyable atmosphere and surroundings. However service was slow. Above 15 minutes to take our drinks order. Food was good but flawed - hugely oversalted chips.
Great little spot for food in Shrewsbury. We went for brunch on a sunny spring day and managed to get a table outside. Would go back again when in town!
