A wonderful open space by the River Thames, close to the centre of Oxford, good for walks. There used to be beautiful unobstructed views of distant Oxford spires until Oxford University controversially were given permission by Oxford City Council to build a row of dominant five-storey Castle Mill student blocks very close to the meadow.

I mean - it's a field. So when I give it four stars, it's a four star field. I suppose there's not much to distinguish one field from another, but this one has horses in and a little bridge in the morning, with a river down one side. I took a star off because it was a bit flooded.

If you want to witness the heaven the visit Port Meadow early morning in winter. Great place to walk, relax, bird watching, boating.

Somewhat miraculously, a genuine ancient landscape only10 minutes walk from the town centre. Ok ok, so it's just a big open space but learn a little of it's history, use your imagination and then appreciate just how special it is. And enjoy it.
