The only good thing about the rink is going to see the Bison team play. The rink is sinking, the floor is incredibly uneven and slippery, the general state is frankly in disrepair. I paid £28 for my two children to skate, this doesn't include skate hire. Worst of all is the diabolical state of the toilets, they are literally disgusting. If you're looking to skate I'd recommend going elsewhere, it's worth travelling.
Apart from watching the Bisons, I hate to say it the place is a dump. Stairs to the stands are on a slant, the rink is sinking below the barriers, half the stands can't be occupied, bisons success banners are falling down or just completely gone. Toilets are a mess. Food and drink is expensive. It was £5 for a rollover hotdog and £5 a pint. Disabled accessibility is awful too. It consists of a wooden box with a ramp on it and you can't actually prebook a disabled place either, it is a first come first serve basis which is appalling in this day an age. It is in need of a massive renovation because the bisons deserve a better rink to play on and the public deserve a better rink to skate on. I will return to watch the bisons but that is it. Bisons and the fans are the only think that gives this place even the smallest bit of life
Cons. Booked what was advertised as Skate with Santa, but I think the Grinch must have stole Christmas from Planet Ice in Basingstoke. No music, no Christmas lights, no decorations, no Christmas atmosphere, and definitely no Santa! Considering it wasn't a busy session, the ice was in poor condition. The whole place looks shabby and in poor condition. Pros. The girl serving in the snack bar, despite being rushed off of her feet, was very friendly and cheerful.
We love ice skating but Planet Ice is running this place to the ground despite the £40 entry fee 1 adult+1 child with gear and skating aid: the state of the ice is very uneven & not maintained during the day, the skating gear is beyond useful life. Generally speaking the facilities are in a state of disrepair, including the toilets !, and many staff openly unhappy. Such a shame...
Brilliant place for a date, to go for a bit of fun or watch a ice hockey match. It's always clean and staff are inviting. Took my wife there for her first time skating and she enjoyed it, everybody was happy and helpful too. Prices are good, parking is free and combine it with bowling, cinema, and local restaurants you can have a lovely day out. Updated, took 2 kids I childmind for a day out and they got exhausted quickly. They did enjoy it but price for kids is a little high. Other than that it was still fabulous and a lot of fun, even if it's run down.
In serious need of refurbishment/updating. It's a good size overall and the ice rink itself certainly does the job. Poor food & drink options for patrons. But it's time the arena was given the care and investment it deserves. Pride in appearance is essential.
I’m absolutely shocked at my experience today. The lady at the front till was lovely, however went to get some skates and the young chap on there was grumpy and rude in my opinion. Considering the price I was really let down. The skates were also blunt and useless and the prices for food and everything was ridiculous. There was no where to sit and the flooring and maintenance of the place was also not it. Not coming back and you all need to sort the place out
Decent Ice rink and stands for watching games. Food and drink is good with staff happy to help and quick to serve.
Absolutely disgusted is the only thing I can say about this place. The staff looked like they wanted to be elsewhere. Took forever to get served with the skates and miserable I’ve never seen anything like it. Couldn’t get refreshments cause they were understaffed, even though there were four members of staff on reception talking away ignoring their customers. Not worth the money at all. If I could put zero stars I would.
We booked skate with Santa. There was a small disclaimer to say Santa only skated for a short period, he was not there at all. We were there early and stayed till the end. The venue was rather disappointing, ordered food and had to eat upstairs which was fine. Upstairs was freezing, uninviting, food rather basic. The experience was a cold and sad one, not what was expected at all.
