The People's Theatre is a true community theatre and a corner stone of the Heaton arts scene. I've been a member since 2012 and it's been a massively important part of my life. The theatre has a rich and varied history and we put on a wide range of productions. Come see our shows, but also come join us!
A lovely little community theatre. Its intimate setting is perfect for the type of show that it attracts. There is a generous stage area and I don't think there is a bad seat in the house. It had a real buzz to it, and everything ran smoothly. The only drawback is a lack of on-site parking, but there is plenty of on-street parking within a very short walking distance. An absolute gem.
Visited first time, as my son was performing at the theatre from his school. I think it's a brilliant theatre for small shows & great for the upcoming artist to perform. Parking was not an issue as there was lot of free parking spaces around the theatre.
This is a real asset to the Newcastle theatre scene. A very good variety of productions, always with a very talented repertoire of actors, very helpful staff and based in a beautiful, restored Art Deco building. It's worth a visit and try to see a production too!
Theatre, large art gallery space, Kathryn & RDWakeman show there. Welcoming place.Friendly bar staff,. Good meeting place or somewhere to relax on sofa. Especially good place for a woman to feel comfortable on her own. Limited show/opening times is only downside but they will open up for groups so look on their website.
Excellent production, close to bus stops, easy wheelchair access, friendly staff
Christmas Highlight. There are other Panto's, with bigger budgets and celebrity casts but as far as our family's concerned you can keep them. They just feel like a product rather than a production. The People's Theatre put on a truly fun show and what makes it such fun is it's all local talent: from the lead actor to the box office. There's a sincerity to the performers. They really want to be there and that enthusiasm is infectious and there always seems to be family members in the audience giving extra vocal support which adds to the buzz of the show. This year we went earlier in the month but we usually try to book the last night for the extra rowdiness as there's definitely a lot of family and friends in there for that one, so we were half expecting it to be a bit more subdued but it was just as much fun. Lots of the usual panto stuff: kids screaming their heads off - "it's behind you" and such... Standard panto fair, and yet done so much better. They usually put a bit of a spin on the original story putting the spotlight on supporting characters and giving everyone a turn. Talking of the cast, another great highlight is the supporting dancers of all ages from 3 or 4 years right the way through to oldies like myself. Well done People's Theatre! Keep it up!! We'll be back through the year but we always look forward to the panto most of all.... It isn't Christmas without you.
Amazing theatre venue!! Watched my daughter dance in a production of Peter Pan. We've been for the past four Christmas performances and it signifies the beginning of Christmas for us. I would highly recommend going to see a show there. Lovely building
Great place. Hollow was one of the best performances I've seen recently. Bar menu can be extended. They also have lovely images and paintings in the hall.
The People's Theatre is an impressive modern building. The main auditorium has comfortable seating and from my seat in the middle, it seemed like all seats would have a good view of the stage. The foyer bar made a positive impression ahead of the play I attended, with a decent selection of reasonably priced drinks. The dance scenes in the production that I saw split opinions: were they downright awful or brilliantly played for comedic effect? That debate continued long after we headed out onto the streets of North Heaton.
