Story

The People's Dispensary for Sick Animals (PDSA) is a veterinary charity in the United Kingdom. It was founded in 1917 by Maria Dickin to provide care for sick and injured animals of the poor. It is the UK's leading veterinary charity, carrying out more than one million free veterinary consultations a year, and is the largest private employer of fully qualified veterinary surgeons and veterinary nurses in the UK.

Eligibility requirements

Today, treatment is only available to the pets of those in receipt of Housing Benefit or Council Tax Benefit. For those eligible, treatment for sick and injured animals is free of charge. Recently, the PDSA started providing eligible pet owners with preventative services such as neutering, vaccinations and microchipping. These services are the only treatments that are not free; however, they are offered at cost price.

Although there is no cost for all treatments except for those of a preventative nature, PDSA asks clients to make a donation of whatever they can afford towards the treatment of their animal.

Currently, PDSA is able to offer its services to 75% of eligible people, and has plans to increase this to 80% over the coming year.[1]

In May 2009 the PDSA began requesting a donation on checking the animal in for treatment.

Great work, worthy of any donation, my kitten would be without medical care if not for these people, the animals benefit from them enormously not the owner , well we do a bit ie financially .
Have been joined with PDSA for nearly 10 years now, they've always been a great help for our 2 older cats however with them being a charity run hospital not a lot of resources are available e.g inhalers or pumps for asthmatic cats, wasn't offered an x ray to double check if she actually has asthma or not.
Nice bunch of people. Wish they could do more. I'm here as other vets are paying for 3 mortgages and 5 kids and university who will just be toilet cleaners.we need a vet in a carpark with a carven truck help. Wish the PDSA could do more like cut of my dogs spot or remove a tooth. Happy with the donation check ups thought. Really grateful to the helpful staff. Nice place.
Unable to get through on the phone to speak to anybody... previously have never had a problem when there the staff are kind and accommodating and used to be able to phone up and book a appointment
Dealing with an emergency situation, no one bothers answering even when I’m the only one in the queue. When answered I get get cut off from them. Poor behaviour from this branch.
I have had two appointments with Vet Charlotte. She has been wonderful. Very professional and knowledgeable but along with that she been kind, understanding and empathetic. Highly recommend. The Hospital do a wonderful job.
Very good service. I've not used it yet but the enrolment process is well worth it just in case.
These people are doing a great job of caring for sick and injured pets. It's such a great help for pet owners on low incomes as they can get their pet checked and treated for a fraction of the price of a private vet. Wwlldone to all the caring staff and vets
Devastating visit today. My cat was put to sleep, because she had cancer. 15 years old. R. I. P two faced
Honestly the care that my moms cat had here has been absolutely fantastic. All staff and Vets have been so kind, patient and helpful, nothing was too much trouble. Sadly my moms cat had to be put to sleep after suffering with an Abdominal Embolsyn but The PDSA Aston advised with the details of cremation etc. One of the Vets even rang and explained what had happened to my moms cat and I was able ro ask any questions I wanted. Absolutely first class service. A wonderful place and wonderful people - Thankyou PDSA Aston for everything.
