Went for mothers day. Service very slow. And manager was quick to tell us what they hadn't got because of delivery. Made me feel awkward asking for afternoon tea at £25 a go. But when she realised I wasn't going anywhere thrn came the apologies. My 8 year old enjoyed it but the cup of tea was the worse I've ever had.

I am here most days to get my coffee and the staff are wonderful. The best tasting coffee I have found and a beautiful seating area overlooking Eastgate.

Bought a Groupon voucher for afternoon tea and, despite it not stating this anywhere, we were only allowed to use it after 1pm. So when we turned up at 12 (to a pretty empty restaurant) we were told to come back at 1pm and she (think it was the manager) said 'I only have 2 left and you can't book'. So we had to kick our heels for an hour hoping others, without a voucher, hadn't got there in the meantime. Not at all welcoming and instead of making you want to return it put us off visiting again. Having said that, when we got back at 1pm (luckily still had some left) another lady served us, who was welcoming, efficient and lovely. And the afternoon tea was very good. Shame the first woman we saw let the side down and had no idea about how to treat customers. I think she needs some retraining - especially if she is the boss!

Comfortable seating, friendly service and good coffee. Takes a few minutes to get your coffee made so perhaps not top of the list cafe for you if you are a hurry, but it's worth waiting for! The savouries and cakes are really good with plenty of choice too.

Awful service. The manager is utterly incompetent. No sense of urgency or customer service. Does not acknowledge a queue - not even to say 'we'll be with you shortly'. Instead publicly moaning about a stocktake. Empty restaurant and waiting in a queue with 3 other customers and still waited 20 minutes?!?! One person gave up and left. This is my third time here and it is the same each time so they feel this review is now justified. It seems that the manager is happy doing the 'frilly' tasks, like pretending to tidy the display and shuffling things around, while the staff do the nitty gritty. Actually, she should muck in when a queue is forming! I feel sorry for the other staff that their boss is so lazy!
