During the hour long leisure session the wave machine was operated only once, at the beginning. The big slide was not open. When I asked about the slide, they just said it was closed, but no explanation was offered. The same when I asked if there was going to be another wave. It was quiet, so I'm guessing that they didn't think it was worth it. It will probably be quiet in future if you don't operate the attractions. Not much of a leisure session in my opinion.
Love this gym. Staff are exceptional. Been coming for years. Pool is brilliant, 25 meter, shallow to deep, open and spacious. There are always lanes marked out, even during a general swim. I have twice lost jewellery when swimming and on both occasions the pieces have been found, kept safely and returned to me. Could not recommend more highly. Have used the gym, played badminton and done classes here too, even the cafe is good and the value is amazing for what they offer. All round an exceptional place, we're lucky to have it in Barrow. Keep up the good work guys
Just an amazing park well maintained and free to anyone. It also has decent toilet facilities, golf, mini train and skatepark.
I have been a member of this gym for 4 years and up until today it would’ve been a 5 star review. The majority of the staff and all the PT’s in there are lovely and know me very well as a regular. A few months ago I cancelled my membership due to me moving off to university. I have come back for a week and have been purchasing day passes. Came in today in my sliders as I was only lifting weights for leg day and can’t wear trainers as the ones I have at home are uneven and would give me an unstable balance while lifting. Tried to scan through the gate and a gentleman caught me demanding I told him where I was going and I can’t go in the gym “wearing those”. He claimed there was a sign on the door. This is obviously a very small sign and not blatantly obvious as I have never seen a sign in the gym about footwear and have never been told by any of the staff that it was not okay. His mannerisms were rude and disgusting and his sarcastic comments were not appreciated at all. This is what you get after being loyal to the same gym for 4 years. Rude members of staff. Completely ruined my day. If you want good effective communication, avoid at all costs. PS: Paid £8 for a day pass and then told me it would be a 20 minute wait for a refund. I just drove off.
Only have time for 1 go on the slide as they open it right at the end with only a 45 min session. Don’t let the children in the deep end regardless of ability but equally let adults/older kids/teenagers in the deep end without assessing their ability. Plenty who could swim less proficiently than my younger kid including an adult we went with but they pick on the small ones. One of the life guards extremely rude other clearly young who don’t dare say anything
Great range of activities on offer however parking is limited and it is impossible to park at peak times. Staff are mostly friendly and helpful. Prices are quite high for swimming/sports sessions. Varied activities during school holidays are available. Cleaning and maintenance has improved greatly over the last 6 months.
We held an event here last weekend and we were absolutely blown away by how accommodating, friendly and creative the staff were - thank you so much! Clean facilities, brilliant slide, gorgeous pool, great cafe did us some fab lunch bags for the team and its the people who make this place brilliant - they all went out of their way to make us feel welcome and were really organised and made everyone feel safe. Would love to come back!
We booked the inflatable session as a family of 4. Staff on arrival were great, changing facilities are ok but lots of broken lockers one door came off in my hand and almost hit my son who was standing under it. The inflatble was good but takes ages to queue to wait for your "swim test" before you can use it, some children were still queuing 20 minutes after the session started, it's only a 45 minute session so to spend half of it in a line is ridiculous, this process needs speeding up! The pirates water area was broken so was not working and the slide was closed due to there not being enough staff to cover the inflatable plus the slide, we were informed by a lifeguard. Slide opened 15 minutes before session closed. Very disappointing for us as a family with children under 8, not much for them when things are closed and broken. Waves came on once in the session, 5 surf board floats were available for about 20 people in the wave pool so again very disappointed. We thought £15 for a family was a bargain but it turns out that half the things are closed or broken so overall I think £15 to stand in shallow water for 45 minutes is not at all worth it
Comms 0/10 - Half term week, website not updated with new non-term time swim timetable, phones just ring out and return to automated menu after ringing for 5 mins, social media… silence. Can’t book via the website unless you have an LA post code ex-barrovian visiting with kids. Overall extremely dissapointed I used to love coming to this pool when I was a kid, and so sad to see it go down hill so badly
Absolutely disgusting attitude from one particular employee, I am epileptic and go swimming here every Sunday and never had issues but today I went with my partner on a Saturday who is also my carer and I've explained before to the reception about using the family changing rooms so he can be with me at all times. They have never had a problem, until today, me and my partner asked reception if we could have a token as they told us it was 50p to use the lockers, so we was okay with that but when we went into the changing rooms it was a £1, so we was talking about what we can do when a lady approached who has worked there in the past but had took her son swimming offered us the £1, which was kind of her, we had no problems until an older lady approached us coming out of the changing rooms telling us we have to go in separate changing rooms when we got to the swimming area, I told her I have a disability and she came out with an excuse that 'theirs always someone in the changing rooms' which was a complete an utter lie because noone was there when we was in there and I used the ladies toilet facilities during my swim whilst my partner waited and noone was in there either. When we finished our swim, she approached us again and told us we had to go in separate changing rooms and that I didn't tell reception I was epileptic. I said not today I haven't but in the past I have, she then thought I was lying and continued to harass me and said people make excuses about using the same towel just to go in the changing rooms together, I said but we both have a towel and I generally have a disability. She then said we made out that we had 50p from reception and was then blaming it on change, I said I don't know what an earth your going on about but for one, why would I lie about a disability and pretend to make excuses! We then went to change when she told us we couldn't go in the same changing rooms, by this time, the young lad who was a lifeguard followed us in to tell us the exact same thing but by this time I was fuming, there was no way I was going into another changing room without my partner watching me. It made me feel so uneasy and I just put my clothes over my swimming costume and left. I didn't enjoy the swim because I felt like I was being watched all the time and second of all I suggest you look up the disability discrimination act because clearly I'm not the only one who has had issues in the past from your reviews! Staff need training!! They shouldn't argue back with someone who is generally trying to explain why they have a carer, When we left at reception and I explained it to the girl she said...well you could of used the disabled facilities, I said well...thankyou for that but I didn't even know that until you just told me now. Still think the attitude of the older lady was disgusting. Definitely won't be going back and I suggest the staff get trained about disabilities and how they can help, not discriminate!!!! I would of been happy to supply them with my neurologists contact details! Absolutely disgusting!!!
