Good range of tiles but in comparison to other tile suppliers in Islington and Shoreditch I found Fired Earth expensive. I visited the Islington store twice and both times found the staff unfriendly and not particularly keen to help. Customer service in tiles etc round the corner is much better, and I didn't have to pay for samples! I would also recommend Claybrook in Shoreditch.
Unenthusiastic, bored staff in the shop when we went to browse. I had to purchase 3 tile samples the only place I've had to pay for samples only to find out when I got home and looked at them online that the range had already been discontinued and sold out. The lady wasn't particularly interested when I phoned to discuss. Left pretty flat by the experience and will take custom somewhere else.
I purchased a large order bathroom, kitchen tiles etc and some samples from the local Hampstead store just prior to the lockdown. As I had a baby in between, I was unable to return only the samples within the return period as I was still recovering from the birth. When I tried to return the samples the Hampstead store was shut down, and the Islington store manager rudely and inconsiderately refused to take the samples back. I even offered to show my baby's birth certificate as evidence of why I was unable to come earlier but the store manager did not relent. Note also that I spoke to a previous store manager at Islington who agreed to take the samples back. PATHETIC and NASTY customer service from, even after a significant purchase. Avoid this store and its incompetent, inconsiderate manager by all means! Fired Earth should shut all its stores since it can't get customer service right. I wish I could give ZERO stars
We had vowed NEVER to use Fired Earth again after purchasing a £13,000 bathroom in 2017 from this very store in which we were told the initial lead time will be 1 week yet we had to endure a stressful waiting period of OVER 3 MONTHS before receiving anything, receiving the order on 4 separate delivery dates and never being able to get through to their customer service for a simple explanation or at the very least, an apology! Unfortunately, We needed to replace the toilet seat for the bathroom and I was not looking forward to revisiting this company at any cost! I could not find the seat on their website so I went to the Upper Street branch and spoke with a young man called Sam who was extremely eager to help. As I was browsing the store whilst my replacement toilet seat was being ordered, I mentioned that I have a shower room to be fitted in our guest suite that I wish to buy a a specific tile for the niche which sadly, only fired earth sell and I did not wish to relive months of delays to the refit and empty excuses due to this companies negligence towards their paying customers. I made it apparent to the chap that I did not wish to purchase again from here but as I could not find the mosaics anywhere else, I was left with no choice in getting this from fired earth, requiring in-writting confirmation and continuous reassurence that there will not be a repeated dissatisfaction with my custom which should not be the case when spending thousands of pounds! As I explained what occurred with my disastrous previous experience, he was rapid in wholeheartedly apologising for the inconvenience we faced with our initial order stating that the company was going through some unplanned changes. He convinced me to allow him to supply a design utilising fired earth products and I accepted, I was under the impression that the whole process to have this planned and drawn up can take at least a week and cost a fair few hundred pound but no no no! Sam sat me down, scrapped the service charge, made me a lovely cup of tea, went through a list of gorgeous tiles & fittings and less than 30 minutes later he was showing me a simply beautiful final design which looked more exquisite than I had pictured, whilst being an absolute delight to deal with throughout the entirety of my time in the store, so much so that I abandoned my ongoing dealings with CP Hart and Mandarin Stone for this project and re-pledged my loyalty here. I'm anticipating that all promises with regards to delivery times are upheld with my design as it will be a severe shame for behind the scene errors to overshadow the experience I had with the young man here. I can not emphasise how truly helpful and satisfactory it was visiting this store, saying that the service is the best money can buy would be a major understatement as I've stayed in exec suites at the Ritz costing almost £2,000 per night yet I received a more welcoming, honest, caring and pleasant service here with Sam! If I could give more than 5 stars then I'd do so in a heartbeat, simply amazing and should be the go-to company for anyone wishing to make adjustments to their homes as it seems that the guys working here have the tendency to go above and beyond.
Being on the process of refurbishing a flat, we have ordered different goods from several suppliers and Fired Earth has been, by far, the worst. I still haven't received my order of mere 4m2 of tiles, which was due 5 days ago. No one ever contacted me. I have had to insistently call them to understand what's going on, and all I hear are empty apologies and blaming on their system. I have since been promised two different delivery dates, none fulfilled. Then they promise to call you back, but never do. The service in store was cold and dismissive and customer care in general is appalling for such expensive products. Now my project is massively delayed and I'll have to pay the builers for extra days. Never buying anything from them again.
I didn't deal with the London shop - went online, and all the communication were with somewhere up North. First they couldn't tell me when actually the stuff will be delivered. Then promised it by Friday. I spent he entire day twiddling my thumbs. Nothing. By Monday I was told they didn't say they "will" deliver by a few days ago, but that "I should have received it". Anyway - impossible to find anyone responsible, they all blame either the "system" or each other - meanwhile you have to rearrange your life for their convenience. So many phone calls .later, so much money spent, so may days of waiting, I got almost what I wanted. Never again. The stuff is fine and lovely - but the service is abysmal
I leave reviews for Fired Earth in general and Cross street shop. 5 stars for Cross street. 3 stars for Fired Earth in general. We are refurbishing our 2 bathrooms right now. We used several tile shops and bath stores. Some of them are high qualities and others are very cheap ones. I found all tile shops can takes few weeks to deliver tiles as tiles are made in mainly in Italy and Spain. So if their stocks are sold out, restock can take several weeks. So not only Fired Earth, but also a lot of tile shops cannot deliver quickly include shops who promiss next day delivery. I noticed that in general google reviews for Fired Earth are not great but I love their tiles so decided to order. I visited Fired Earth Oxfordshire, Hampstead Heath and Cross Street. Used online to place my order. As I was not able to check the stock online, took quite a while to receive the tiles. I called Fired Earth few times and unlike other reviewers, I managed to talk with online sales staff. She was friendly. She kept me updated and I managed to receive them on time. 2nd time, I urgently needed tiles so visited Cross street on Sunday just 20 minutes before their closing time. We picked up several tiles and asked a shop staff to check stocks. We chose Express delivery. We actually mistakenly ordered less tiles than we needed. So called them on Monday and added more tiles. This could have delayed the delivery BUT we received the all tiles 3 days after visiting the cross street shop. Quick! My tips are order tiles 1 month before builders booking if possible. Visit Fired Earth shops rather than online shop and check stocks first then order. Cross street shop staffs were helpful. Not difficult to contact with:
Unacceptably substandard. Having spent a week trying to contact fired earrh by phone and email to no avail to confirm a scheduled weekend delivery AND having resorted to tweeting them in block capitals to finally get a response and a delivery a day late through sheer persistence... beyond dismayed to get a call from builder at point of laying said tiles saying three out of 4 boxes contained exclusively broken tiles... all round terrible experience. Would never buy from Fired Earth again and such bad chat but have told anyone who will listen.
My wife and I popped in on bank holiday Monday to look for tiles suitable for a fireplace hearth. We were helped by a man called Jamie who was really friendly and knowledgable. I'd highly recommend visiting this brach - the service was brilliant.
Nice tiles, but they use the most rude and obnoxious delivery service. I would strongly recommend they change this because it made it a very unpleasant experience.
