One of the best Medical Centres in and around the Oswestry area. Extremely spacious and clean, lovely building, relaxing decor, great reception area, good waiting areas with seating, has a chemist and dispensary and big outdoors parking area. The staff are welcoming and polite, good doctors and nurses, receptionists and pharmacists are all very friendly, helpful and supportive. Thanks to you all at Plas Ffynnon for doing such a great job!
Reception staff a difficult and unhelpful and the online booking system in virtually pointless. Reception staff avoid actively helping people to make an appointment and blame the system, stating that they can only book people in that day. They also only ever offer phone appointments. No attempt is made to accommodate key workers, resulting in a knock on affect to service provision. Where do I start with the Patient Access online system. Waste of time. Can only book ahead 6 days and only ever offers appointment between 1000-1100am. As a result of never being seen and only having phone appointments over the last 5 months, treatment has been largely ineffective as doctors are just stabbing in the dark, throwing a random cocktail of medicine my way which I have to pay for in the hope that it might work. If I worked like this in my hospital I’d be sacked and most likely struck off!!!
Impossible to get an appointment. Can not pre book and spend half hour on phone to be told ‘all appointments are gone’ wouldn’t mind but this is EVERYDAY! WHEN you do see a doctor, it is always someone you’ve never seen before so they don’t really listen to the severity of problem. Shame because there were 3 good regular doctors years ago. I’m not even sure if they are still there or who my gp is anymore. Considering moving to a new practice
It is not possible to book an appointment for a future date. The surgery makes this expressly clear - you must ring on the day early morning and try your luck at securing a time to see a doctor. The average person, who has oh...I don't know...work, life, childcare commitments to manage, is faced with a challenge when ringing for an appointment: 1. Get on the phone at 8AM, and join the queue of patients competing to see a doctor at a do-able time. 2. Hope that when they get through, there are still appointments available. If not, try again the next day! Sure, why not! Whats another 24 hours, I'm sure it takes longer than that for a minor ailment to become a serious one, right? 3. Oh wow, you got through and there are appointments available! But wait, are any of the remaining appointments offered, at a convenient time to you the patient?. Can you get there at that time, do you have transport, what about the school-run, or work? What if its one of your kids who needs to see the doc? Well, if it's not possible, simply ring again tomorrow, rinse/repeat. Tell me I'm wrong, but if they offered the ability for patients with an ongoing or non-urgent issue to book days or weeks in advance, it'd likely help planning of staff-availability? It'd also remove the uncertainty stress/worry/annoyance on patients having to ring on the morning. It'd also encourage better continuity - if a patient can proactively arrange future appointments with their preferred doctor, they can continue the narrative of an ongoing investigation without having to re-explain the latest development to a different individual each time. And lastly, I bet it'd make the Receptionists life a lot easier, being able to say "YES! We CAN offer you an appointment a week next Monday, with a doctor, at a time convenient to both you the patient and us, the surgery!". Other services I can think of where its' smply not possible to book in advance, would be a fast food restaurant, or a petrol station, where you show-up and hope for availability. But even MacDonalds has Deliveroo now, so why can't Plas Ffynnons' practice management give their heads a wobble and offer advanced bookings? Or maybe their Outlook Calendar is stuck in 1-Day view? EDIT: Thank you for your detailed reply. You mention you offer pre-bookable appointments by phone which are available a few days in advance. I explicitly asked for this to book an appt for 1-2 weeks ahead and was told it is absolutely not offered. Unless those pre-bookable appoinments are reserved for patients with an ongoing consultation/investigation? I think there is a disconnect somewhere. The econsult process works well - having used it now. For working people this will likely be the most reliable way to book as phoning during peak periods is a hit or miss, given how busy the lines are. Thank you
If you think there's even a tiny chance you may need a doctor at some point in your life, do not use this practice. Ring to make an appointment, sit on hold for hours and get told it's fully booked for that day and they can't make you an appointment for another day. "A pharmacist can advise you though". Go to see the pharmacist; "you'd need to see your GP". Endless loop and you never end up getting to see anyone. 1 star is too good a rating for this place
Despite the problems the NHS is experiencing at the moment, the Doctor and team were able to see me and help me with my current health problems.
Friendly and helpful surgery staff and GPs. Understanding about mental health issues and helped me find the answer to a long term health issue, I felt listened to, believed and cared for, which doesn't always happen as a young woman
Lovely and polite staff. First rate medical care service.
Very efficient and helpful staff. Large car park and waiting areas. As its a health centre masks should be worn on entering. I have NO problems with this policy. Covid is still with us...
Absolutely appalling. I have had such a bad experience with this centre. They are always running late and do not have the common courtesy to let patients know - they just leave you sat in the waiting room for over an 1hr and when you ask how long the wait will be they just say “don’t know” and walk away. I’ve expressed my concerns for my health and been told “well everyone gets Ill” as if that is helpful? When asked to test my bloods and double checking that I was having everything tested they failed to test all of them. On follow up calls the Drs have no idea of the case and just say “can’t really advise”. The worst.
