The décor is faded, the loos a bit grotty and the staff slow to seat, serve and clear tables. General air of mild chaos. The food however was okay. Our son had the pancakes and they were fluffy and gooey. I had an omelette that was average and my husband's breakfast burger was good. The staff waddle about and get there eventually but don't visit if you are in a rush.
Firstly we have been Little Chef fans for a very long time. Some are better than others, but most are now looking tired and unloved, especially in the rest rooms. As for the food we had yesterday, my wife had a chicken burger, she felt the baps are stored in a too cold environment which makes them dry and brittle when one adds the burger. I had the regular burger which had a nasty taste of old grease and the same problem with the bap. Plus I felt the chip oil needed changing sooner. Didn't eat all mine. Disappointed with our meal. Also, the place needed some heating, it was cold and sat there eating with our coats on. Feel we should have gone to Burger King next door
Rather shabby, bit slow service and quite expensive, but acceptable food and super staff who look after their customers. Stopped in for breakfast after an overnight ferry so it was a welcome break with toilet facilities! Perhaps my need to stop and the pleasant staff has given this venue a higher rating than I would be normally. It could do with a revamp, recovering the rips on the bench seats and a lick of paint in the bathrooms...but it fulfils a role on a long journey south.
The staff were very polite and helpful. Unfortunately the overall standard of the site is very poor. It is tired and run down. It is in desperate need of a refurbishment and reminds one of a 70's establishment. The hygiene standards also left much to be desired and quality of the meal was below average. I wouldn't recommend and won't be visiting again.
Only 1 member of staff when we arrived. But as there was only 1 couple there did not think the wait would be to long. First We had 4 hot chocolates drinks were hot but the mugs were not full there was a good inch or more missing from them. Second We ordered 4 olympic breakfasts. The food was lukewarm the beans were cold. Toilets The toilets were filthy with pee and water all over the floors and toilet paper used and clean also on the floor and there was no toilet paper to use. When this was pointed out to a member of staff nothing was done and she just shrugged. Please save your money and eat else where.
Had both an evening meal and a breakfast here as my partner and i were staying in the travel lodge next door and we have to say both meals were beautiful. Great food and very helpfull pleasent staff. The 1st meal we both opted for burgers one chilli burger one breakfast burger and the breakfast meals were scrambled egg and bacon on toast and the pancake stack with banana and toffee sauce. Amazing cheap food and we are very happy customers.
Pleasant cheerful lady cooking and serving on her own. Superb breakfast and vegetarian too.Always been a fan of Little CHef. Its how food should be served forget your burger chains this is the place on a long journey.Hope it never disappears. Thanks.
Don't go if your in a rush. The staff are VERY disorganised. We went in family of 4 and were seated by staff at a table which only had 3 chairs, 4th one brought from one of 6 tables which were only in need of clearing. One person cooking, one clearing eventually. All the time we were in at least 4 tables were dirty at any one time tables and working till and one person taking orders, but only one table at at time then disappears for ages getting drinks. Each time going from restaurant to kitchen empty handed. They were actually turning custom away. Food was good, but come on get your act together! Its not difficult!!!!
Couldn't fault the food, service was good and efficient. The only reason I have given four stars instead of five is the lack of toilet rolls - a quarter of a roll between three loos is not enough! Apart from that, it's great for a short break and refuel
We found this Little Chef to be warm and welcoming when we stopped yesterday for breakfast . The staff were friendly and helpful, service was prompt, the food was plentiful, hot and excellent value. Many thanks to staff and management. John B
