About

We sell a variety of donated clothes and accessories, books, music, homewares, Fairtrade food, greeting cards and stationery.

Story

Inside our shop you will find thousands of donated items - clothing, books and homewares together with our new products and, of course, our life changing E-cards (http://www.oxfam.org.uk/shop/oxfam-unwrapped) ... why not buy a goat!

Oxfam relies on donations and there are several ways you can do this:

Hand your item(s) into the shop
Deposit your books or clothing in our banks which are located around the city
If you have a large donation or are unable to get to the shop or banks then phone the shop - we will collect (give the driver a biscuit, he's always hungry!)
Or, of course if our Derby shop is not your closest then there are hundreds more to choose from.

We also have lots of books listed online. You can find our online shop at: http://www.oxfam.org.uk/shop/local-shops/oxfam-shop-derby

Mission

Oxfam is a global organisation committed to ending poverty and to helping rebuild the lives of those of those affected by it.

Oxfam opened its first Oxfam shop in 1948 at 17 Broad Street in Oxford and it is still open today.

We couldn’t do this without the support of over 22,000 amazing shop volunteers who helped us raise nearly £90 million towards Oxfam’s work last year.

In 1987, Oxfam opened the first Oxfam charity bookshop in St Giles, Oxford. We now have 148 specialist bookshops and sell up to 1 million books every month....

Oxfam shops also sell new products, such as Fairtrade food and gifts. Every single new product we stock helps create positive futures for people. Last year, profit from sales of Oxfam’s new products was £3.2 million.

In 2007, we had another first when we launched the UK’s first online charity shop. The Oxfam Online Shop is supplied with items by over 200 Oxfam shops and hubs across the country. Over 100,000 donated and new items, from vintage clothing through to the latest fiction are for sale online.

Did you know… no clothing goes to landfill?

Oxfam is the only charity retailer to operate its own specialised sorting facility, Oxfam Wastesaver, which maximises revenue from textiles that cannot be re-sold in our shops.

Clothing is collected from our shops and donation banks and sorted before being moved to the most suitable market, including:

• being redistributed to other Oxfam high street shops, the Oxfam Online Shop or the Oxfam Festival Shop
• sold for reuse overseas, for example we sell heavy winter clothing to Eastern Europe
• low-grade items are sold to recycling companies which use them as mattress or upholstery filler
• a small amount is incinerated, which creates energy for the local community.
Summer clothing is sold to a social enterprise run by Oxfam in Senegal, called Frip Ethique (meaning “ethical second hand clothing”), which provides employment for local women sorting and selling clothes in the local area. All the profits are invested back into Oxfam’s projects in Senegal.
All of this amazing work wouldn’t be possible without the generosity of people who donate goods for us to sell. There are many ways for you to donate to Oxfam apart from via your local shop:
• in our donation banks in all Sainsbury’s car parks
• in your local M&S store, shwop an old item when you buy a new one
• if you donate an item of M&S clothing in your local Oxfam shop we’ll give you a £5 M&S voucher
• encourage your workplace to join Oxfam Collects and we’ll collect it from you!

If you sign up to Tag Your Bag when you donate to our shops we will write to you to tell you how much your goods have raised and the impact that could have on Oxfam’s work around the world. For example:

• one paperback sold by Oxfam could buy two books for a school in Somaliland
• one T-shirt sold is enough to pay for a water container for 4 families in Niger
• one jacket and one T-Shirt sold is enough to provide training for a beekeeper in Ethiopia, to help improve the amount and quality of the honey produced and therefore, their profits
• one suit and one coat sold is enough to provide potentially life-saving safe hygiene training for a pupil or teacher in Zambia.

I used to work here part time for some college experience and had to get around 72 hours for one of my college courses. Staff were extremely friendly and awesome to be around with. The store itself is small and unique in it's own way. I highly recommend this place if you are looking for some cheap and well priced items. Or maybe some work experience. The Atmosphere here is amazing. And I do not regret working here, it was a great experience.
Always polite and friendly. Good store, especially for books. Fair prices. Remember folks, it is going to charity. Moaning is inappropriate!
Great store with good covid hygiene procedures sanitise at the door, one way system and staff face masks and sneeze screen and friendly chatty staff. I'm not a big charity shop fan as they usually have littler in the way of younger men's clothing and mostly nick-nacks I'd rather not clutter my house up with. However, the book selection in this store is very good and well arranged. There's certainly something covering most interests and even quite a few obscure too. I bought crime fiction novel but could have easily got a bird song CD and pasta cooking book all for lesser than a tenner and the money is going to charity - even better. I think more could be done to promote reads within the selection but maybe space is at a premium and they're not a book shop only. Also, more younger men's clothing might encourage a few more like me to kit out our wardrobes with recycled and reused stuff rather than new. Good store and worth a nosy.
Staff are always friendly. If you go to charity stores primarily for book then look no further. Best second-hand book collection in Oxford.
Pretty standard Oxfam but it's nice and clean and the best charity shop in Derby. I've had a couple of rare finds there so worth checking out if you're in the city centre.
The manager and one of staff are very rude. Not like same others Oxfam I like Oxfam charity shops without Derby brunch
Most Oxfam shops are a bit more expensive that charity shops in general and this one seems to fit that bill, small store.
Lovely Oxfam, wonderful staff, I used to volunteer here, it was always organised and clean and the staff were so friendly.
Got a load of items there and found a couple of wildlife books I wanted and got them
Decent book selection on history and non fiction worth a peak.
