It's quite easy to miss as the restaurant itself is downstairs and there's merely an awning and menu at the street level. The decor is industrial. Every so often they offer a three course regional menu with paired wines. On our recent visit it was a Sicilian menu. The food was nice, although I have enjoyed it more from their standard menu on previous visits. The wines were fantastic though. The staff are very polite and helpful.
Poor service with average food. The waitress was more interested in us purchasing water as she asked us three times if we wanted it with our dinner. Menu was fairly small, my pizza was burnt around the edges, I had a chipped plate, and we weren't offered any bread or parmesan unlike the table next to us. Small things, but when you're being charged for service you would expect better. Disappointed.
Went here last night and was a tad disappointed to be honest. Firstly, it was Valentines Day so I accept it's not a great night to be dining out. The initial service was great - very welcoming & I thought we were in for a real treat. But that's where it tailed off. Our waitress seemed to forget about us for most of the night and we had to try to catch her eye whenever we wanted something ie. to order food. It was very frustrating and distracting. When the food was ordered it did come quickly, which was good. The food itself was ok. Nothing fancy, but not bad either. Tip: The pizza/garlic/rosemary bread sounds and smells great, but be warned - it's very sickly and greasy, which is a great shame. After all the delays, we finally got round to finishing dessert, after which the bill was immediately brought to our table without having asked for it... Funny how service is always prompt when they want the table back. In summary, this experience was definitely not worth the £115 bill. However, the atmosphere/deco is nice, and I will try it again one day, with their normal menu - and certainly not on Valentines Day.
Went there on a Sunday night so probably not as crowded or hectic as a theater night. Service was excellent and the food and decor very good. Very warm and comfortable. Order the beef and ricotta meatballs which are out of this world. All and all a very worthwhile and satisfying experience. Many thanks to Erica for taking such good care of us!
I strongly recommend this place. The buffalo mozzarella is the real stuff from Italy. Having only had pizza I couldn't comment on the other dishes but mine was very nice, evidently made with fresh dough cooked in a stone oven. The ingredients are all top quality. The service is excellent and waiters are professionals. The atmosphere in the dining room is very pleasant and classy, with the kind of lighting that is relaxing but not uncomfortably dim which is sadly the norm in lesser restaurants. It's authentic Italian food by London standards and I will go again.
Was expecting a lot more for the money the meal cost, my girlfriend ordered a fried cod and potato meal which arrived on a tiny plate and consisted of one piece of fish on a bed of tomato sauce and one tiny new potato. The service was very rushed and literally came out five minutes after we ordered it, although not surprising considering how small it was. We left the restaurant feeling disappointed and starving.
A lot of people are calling this place a tourist trap, but I really don't believe that. This is actually one of the restaurants that I visit and don't feel like I am in the busiest part of London. The service is on point, always helpful and happy to talk through the menu. The zucchini batters thins cant remember what the menu called them are wonderful and totally more-ish. The lunch and pre theatre menu is a total bargain for the area and the food is delicious. I think this place is a nice haven to the hustle and bustle above
Found the staff disinterested and kind of rude. Probably could do with cracking a smile. Appearing disappointed we asked for tap water and did not order a bottle of wine. Food wasn't bad. Quite tasty. Food was presented on chipped plates. I feel that they could do with a refurbishment as the outlay is outdated. I feel that I could live all those things but not the service attitude especially as you are automatically charged for it.
Similarly as with Smollensky’s only the entrance is at ground level and you have to go down a small set of stairs to get to the actual restaurant. It was a lot more intimate than we were expecting and would be great for a romantic pre-theatre meal but luckily out group had halved in size to just six after a last minute Lunch and Learn was scheduled for the same time. We tucked ourselves away in a corner and chatted away happily amongst ourselves. The staff were attentive but not over bearing and very knowledgable on their menu. The set menu provides excellent value for money at £16.75 for 2-courses and £19.50 for 3. I’m glad that I just went for the small portion as it was more than enough for me. It was delicious too with the flaky white crab meat being full of flavour and there was lots of it as well which was nice to see. I was initally disappointed not to have been offered parmesan cheese with my meal though I think that this was perhaps a good thing as it would have detracted from the lovely flavours. The restaurant also has a lovely policy of allowing you to have your dessert/coffees after the theatre if you so wish which is great as you don’t need to wolf down three courses before heading to the show you are seeing.
Went here last week and they completely overcharged us for starters as a group. They slyly added on extra costs without even clarifying the price. There were supposed to be 12 starters but they gave us 4 sharers for meat eaters and individual plates for 2 vegetarians. Overall I won't be coming back.
