Ormiston Sir Stanley Matthews Academy

About

Ormiston Sir Stanley Matthews Academy is a multi-million pound new build Academy project in Stoke-on-Trent..

Story

Ormiston Sir Stanley Matthews Academy (OSSMA) opened in September 2010. We were one of the first Academies in Stoke-on-Trent to have a new building which opened in January 2013. Our Principal is Mark Stanyer.

The Academy was constructed on the site of the existing Ormiston Sir Stanley Matthews Academy. The site includes the co-location of a new special school - Kemball.

Maximum pupil numbers are 1050, 11 to 16 and from September 2014, 150 post 16 giving a total occupancy of 1200.

Our new state of the art building's key features include:

Faculty clusters based around social learning zones or "hubs"
Central "street space"
400 Seat Arts Theatre
Drama Studio/Conference Room
Flexible, agile and adaptable environments
Access to over 300 computers
4 badminton court sized sports hall with facilities for indoor cricket, netball, volleyball and basketball
Fully equipped dance studio
Fitness Suite
4 Outdoor Tennis Courts
Upgraded grass pitches and Synthetic Turf Pitch to Football Association standard to promote links with Stoke City Football Academy.

We have ambitious plans to share our facilities with our community. Any community group wishing to make use of our facilities, please contact our Extended Services Director or Centre Manager.

Our students, teachers, parents and governors, form one big OSSMA family who work together to ensure that achievement and enrichment are the central aspects of our daily life together. We are committed to go the extra mile to ensure the best for our young people and achieving our vision that:

“All OSSMA students will be exceptional learners, experiencing a world class education”.

We aim to provide the best experiences to our students, whether through academic work, competing in sport, participating in drama or by seeing the world. This helps them to shape their course as they move from school through to university and then on into their adult lives.

Ormiston Sir Stanley Matthews Academy is a good school with outstanding Leadership & Management, as judged by Ofsted and we have been designated as a National Support School and our Principal, Mark Stanyer, as a National Leader of Education.

As a National Leader of Education, the Principal is able to conduct Pupil Premium reviews and as a National Support School, we are able to offer support for the development of senior and middle leadership and also teaching and learning.

Should any school or academy wish to utilise these offers, please contact Mrs Emma Smith, PA to the Principal.

We are proud of how far OSSMA has advanced since becoming an Ormiston academy in 2010 and we will continue to improve the opportunities for our young people that will equip them for modern life, and to have no ceiling on their aspirations.

My daughter attends this school. It's changed in so many ways since I attended and NOT for the better... bullying is a massive problem!! The teachers allow disruptive behaviour and there's big issues in regards to safeguarding our children while within the school . If my daughter wasn't an only child I would not be sending any of her siblings there... in regards to the learning they seem to push the clever kids hard as I suspect that's where the results come from the rest are allowed to run riot
Wish we had snow days other than that i enjoy attending but it could be better if they let the yr 7's in the mall at break on cold days as some of us either shouldnt be going outside because of injurys or its way too cold or some of us are sensitive to the cold teachers are quite strict but i guess that helps us to get our work donnne... Also year 7 shouldnt have two different sittings or should at least be allowed to 1. Go into any sitting and 2. Be able to sid in different spaces everyday because they make us stay in the same places since we first joined the school but what if we made new friends who we work well with but you sit on a table with someone who has turned their back on you. I think that their support of the LGBT community is great.
Kids summer club. No sign indicated where to go. No disabled parking. Long walk from car park to hall entrance. Expensive. Staff were friendly enough.
Only went to pick the grandkids up but I have always found the staff there friendly helpful and polite I've never had a problem with them but there is not enough parking space
It's saves warming all places not keeping fit but joint it's still okay all over the place even better and can get much better still and now it .
Its a good school with high standards i send my child in some small black leather boots and she got put in isolation for it the uniform policy is pathetic.
Great parking and the 4g football pitch is fantastic.
you do something right and then they chuck it back in your face
"good" - ofsted
don't let me play minecraft
