If you are looking for good food this place doesn't disappoint. The pies are homemade, and as good as it gets. The menu is very good, with a bit of everything. Reasonably priced home cooked food by very good chefs.
Staff was great really welcoming, food not so much microwave mash and stodgey cheese and onion pie everything frozen witnessed one of the chefs eating between service licking his fingers and carrying on playing up food. 2 stars because bar staff and waitresses was great
...Have been here a few times as a regular pub ..but have noticed and admired the food so we thought we'd try it..Both thought excellent!...I had bbq pork belly chunks which were melt in the mouth and huge plus chilli which was really good...tho too many nachos for me...my partner had the festive pigs in blankets and the roasted cod loin which he really enjoyed. ..All good portions and excellent value. .Oh..and the biggest 'side salad ' I've ever seen. ..put a can of tuna or some cheese with it it would be a meal!...Lovely attentive staff too..
Great lively atmosphere, a real family, all welcome pub. The team are really great as is the service. You've got to have the cheese pie!!!
Had a nice meal here Belly pork bites taste lovely Rag pudding could have been warmer, had to wait for staff to bring eating irons ,after first one's used eating starters, Very good selection of beers . Not bothered by staff keep asking if everything is OK . Only fault was young kids wandering inside pud
Fantastic food, great staff. Highly recommended. Cheese n Onion pie is to die for.
Nice pub with outdoor seating. Didn't stop for food bit it looks good. Friendly staff. Not cheap at over £11 for 2 beers but a nice stop.
Dropped in for food as we were passing. We got a warm welcome and felt at home instantly. The menu has a decent and varied selection. The food was blooming lovely! We'll definitely go there again. There's a free car park directly opposite. Well worth a visit.
Went on a Tuesday Lunch. It was cold inside. The tables and chairs are like old school tables and it doesnt look very welcoming. Maybe just some little vases on the tables with a flower to give a bit of colour might make it feel a bit more inviting? We were given menus including a lunch menu with various dishes at £6. We ordered a tea and a coffee. The tea came and I was constantly stirring the tea to realise it was a herbal teabag! I asked if we could change it and the boy behind the bar said he didnt even know that they served herbal tea! At which point the chef came out to get some beer for the fish batter I presume? and said "oh yes they are all mixed in with the normal teabags apparently!" We ordered off the lunch menu as we werent starving which was a good job really! My hubby had the fish and chips which was a very small portion and I had sausage n mash which was also small... 2 sausages with very thin gravy and mushy peas running into the gravy, served on a plate which looked like I used to get my school dinners on. A bit disappointing to be honest. Maybe I was expecting something a bit like the other picture which has 3 large cumberland sausages, rich onion gravy and fresh veg... presented in a nice bowl which is only £5.95 in another pub Maybe serve the mushy peas in a ramekin? Or serve the gravy in a jug? Just my opinion... I think I was expecting more given the history of the pub and the area it is in. Maybe it just needs a few tweaks to make it feel welcoming and present the food a bit better? A few flowers, colourful cushions? Also it would be good to make sure the staff are doing check backs. Had he come back I would have asked for some mustard for my sausages but he was in the kitchen chatting to the chef because there was no-one else in the pub.
We were trying to find places to eat in Saddleworth and the Farrars was recommended. We visited twice in a few days. We called and booked ahead of time, I don't know how necessary it was, but the times we arrived there was space. Best to be sure. The choice of food, for a pub menu is nice. Some good, hearty options. The service was friendly and helpful both times. The choice of beers and wines is standard pub stuff. I feel a pub is made by its staff, and they were quick with drinks and requests, glasses cleared quick. If you're after a good pub experience, you have it right here. As for the food, I had the Steak and Ale pie the first visit, the Cheese and Onion the second. They were both delicious, great tasting and good value. The chunky chips were a little undercooked, but nothing inedible. My wife had the fish and chips the first time, her fish was a little too greasy, but the batter was crisp. The slightly undercooked chips bothered her more. On the second visit, she chose the burger. This was a mistake. The burger was not good, it was basically a meatloaf minced beef with onions and had a steamed like texture to it rather than a grilled burger. Considering the other food and the clear talent in the kitchen, odd choice not to try and make a decent burger. A friend with us had the Buffalo wings. These were, by all accounts, incredible. The wings looked fresh, and very meaty. Also, the pizzas were great value, nice and fresh and didn't scrimp on ingredients. When I'm next in the area, the Farrars will definitely be on the list of places to visit.
