About

The Old Mill Hotel, old world 15th century pub and best restaurant food in Salisbury, set right over the picturesque river Nadder

Story

The Old Mill Hotel is a 15th century building with features dating back to 1250. From its early ecclesiastical beginnings, it was transformed in the 16th century to a paper mill. The hotel is in the most tranquil location while the shopping and tourist district of Salisbury City centre is easily accessed via a beautiful 10 minute walk through Harnham Meadows.

Relax and soak up the atmosphere around you. Our excellent location makes us an ideal place to simply catch up with friends over a few drinks and enjoy a tasty meal from our extensive menu. Our bar is classic old English style with real beams, stone floor and open fireplace. The ambiance is enhanced by the low ceiling and atmospheric feel to this wonderful old pub. We serve a range of excellent real ales and are proud to hold the Cask Marque accreditation.

The restaurant is set in the oldest part of the hotel and sits above a mill run which is visible through a viewing panel. The pleasing rush of the waters and the large open fireplace make it one of the best places to enjoy traditional food that’s been freshly prepared by our chefs for your pleasure.
When the weather permits our restaurant and bar may be outdone by our fantastic garden setting for the best place to enjoy a cool beer, a glass of wine or a great meal.

The hotel is Grade 1 listed in parts and stands in a most peaceful and stunning location above 3 mill runs off the River Nadder. This really is a countryside escape, just a stone’s throw from the ancient city.

The rooms are accessed via a staircase in the newer part of the building, a mere 300 years old. This takes you to narrow corridors leading you to our 11 en-suite rooms set over three floors (no lift available, but of course we will be happy to help with luggage if you need it).

Once in your rooms we are sure you will find the views spectacular, whether it’s the Harnham Hills, the River Nadder or our fabulous gardens, set on either side of the mill run, where every seat has a waterside view! The hotel bar, restaurant and bedrooms will be undergoing refurbishment during October and November 2014 and the garden will be completed in March 2015. This is being done with the maximum respect for our existing visitors and will enhance this already great experience.

A very pretty public house in lovely surroundings. Unfortunately it's not consistent in it's delivery of atmosphere or food. The food is expensive but has novel dishes. Most of the time delivered fairly quickly and tasty but not always. They are not big portions. We went one weekday evening for a quiet social chat in January. The staff were lovely but the place cold. We had to keep our coats on while consuming our drinks. More attention on the cleanliness inside is required.

So today, was the second time that I came back to this beautiful and lovely place. Such treasure I've found. If you're actually in Salisbury or near by, just forget about Costa, Starbucks, (...). Come to this place. Fresh and well taken coffee. Just mind blowing. No fifty sugar bags needed at all to disguise the awful taste of burnt coffee. Needs no sugar at all. Besides that, not today 'cause it was raining lots, but if it hapens to be a lovely day of sunshine, enjoy the beautiful view outside while you have your coffee. Def. my fabourite place to be in Salisbury. It's a big MUST DO on your list. Lovely staff as well. xx

Small hotel with attentive staff. For travellers wanting to stay in a quaint hotel with a small attached pub. Nice breakfast

Beautiful building in a beautiful location. Friendly and helpful staff. Room was warm even though it was cold outside. There is a restaurant and pub onsite. Breakfast included in the room rate was good. If you are a really light sleeper it will be worth noting it is an old building and you will hear the odd creak from a floorboard in a room above or the background noise of the river flowing through the sluice of the building. This however did not bother me.
