We had whitebait, mussels and scallops. All excellent. The whitebait was the best I've had. Huge plate of mussels. Owner's a character.
Great location, wonderful view across Lyme Bay, staff were really good, set us a table to take in that view from inside lovely day, all the outside seating was full made a fuss of our 1yr old, and were attentive but not obtrusive. I had the crab sandwich, I will be having another!
We sat outside in the warm December sun and had some amazing food, served by friendly staff.
Food was OK can't complain about it at all. I would personally like to have seen a better seafood menu. Staff had a real lack of knowledge on the menu and not that friendly in they're approach. The staff were very young so probably just down to a lack of experience and some good training. I recon with the properly trained staff we would have spent more money perhaps bought a desert etc. So if its fish and chip type food you're after it's not bad and has nice sea bay to look over while eating your food. Having said that don't think I'd go back. A person who I thought was possibly the owner didn't give the staff much guidance. If staff are friendly I always leave a good tip, on this occasion I did not. They didn't even say thanks when we paid and left. The more I think about it the more annoyed I get.
Stopped for lunch and a glass of wine and was so pleasantly surprised. Perfectly prepared scallops and a sumptuous fish chowder was absolutely fabulous. Fish and chips was also delicious. Topped off with friendly and fast service makes this a seaside gem.
If you walk past the Ocean View with going to eat you probably would made the biggest mistake. Absolutely wonderful eats & Drinks, relaxed company with a warm welcome. Most definitely the best fish & chips with wonderful full flavor pea's.
This place doesn't even deserve a star! Utterly rude staff, particularly the old man who seems to be the owner/manager, after abruptly slamming a reserved sign on our table as we had just finished our breakfast and said 'This table is reserved for 12:15 okay ladies.' He came over three times to confront me in front of other customers, my friend and daughter because I queried why it was necessary for him to be so rude because the reserved sigh was practically forcing us our into the rain. We hadn't even paid the bill which was not cheap either. I do not recommend this place to anyone, there are plenty of other nice places worth your while and money on that seafront. Not value for money, service appalling and aggressive after they have had your business/money.
Nice place by the sea with really nice view, friendly staff. Seems to be a family run business. Food is delicious enough and fresh. We had mussels, fish and chips and squid a little pricey as starters are £8-£10 and mains are £15-£18 , but I think this is the price range you will be looking at in this area with the restautrest. Unless there is also a fish and chip shops nearby which sells cheaper food. But overall good experience.
What a fantastic find on our short break in Lyme. Stumbled across Ocean View on our first day. Owner could not have been more friendly and accomodating. We returned with family during our stay and had the most gorgeous food. Great service and very good value for money. Thank you!
As per previous review we also sat down to order drinks and a man said we would have to go next door if we only wanted drinks. We heard him say to someone else that he makes a point of only letting people sit down for a drink if they are eating. The place was half empty. I think this type of attitude demonstrates why numbers of tourists are falling at such resorts. As it happens we did order drinks next door and ended up ordering food. So it makes good business sense to serve drinks only when requested.
