A wonderful tranquil spa set in glorious countryside. The treatment was wonderful paying attention to all of my needs. Followed by a delicious afternoon tea. We rolled out of there very full and relaxed! I highly recommend!Service: 4/5
We had an amazing spa day here. The staff in particular were wonderful, very friendly and professional. Everyone in our group agreed that their treatments were the best they ever had. The facilities were great, and we particularly enjoyed the indoor/outdoor pool and the outside jacuzzi, and use of the complimentary coffee machine. Only criticism would be the amount of lounger reserving by other guests who never appeared to use them.
nice rooms, nice staff, great spa. The package deals are good value but the reason why this is 4 stars and not 5 is because things are astronomically expensive outside of the package deal: £6 for a small bottle of beer, £9.50 for a shot of Bailey's, £32 for a screw top bottle of wine. Spa treatments were around £80 for a half hour. Definitely worth a visit though
stayed here for a birthday treat with my husband. We booked into the spa for a treatment and also upgraded to the Cuckfield room. Upon arrival, the reception staff were very welcoming and we were shown personally to our room and given the information regarding times of dinner, breakfast and the spa. The spa is very clean, staff are attentive and our massages were very relaxing. Our dinner reservation was pre-booked for us and we were greeted politely and professionally. The restaurant staff were all very pleasant to chat to, made sure we were attended to and it made a nice change to feel like a customer. The food was absolutely delicious and we left feeling full and happy. The bed and room were clean, we had a coffee machine and a kettle along with a choice of pods and tea. The best touch was homemade biscuits in a cute pot. The bed was very comfy and cosy. After a full dinner and a drink it was hard not to fall asleep instantly! Breakfast was absolutely delightful, again amazing service from all of the staff. It was easy to have a little chat with them as they build up rapport very quickly. We then were able to use the spa until 2pm after checkout which ended our overnight stay perfectly.
This beautiful, historic manor house is situated perfectly on a hill just steps from the shops of Cuckfield with beautiful views and amazing spaces! We stayed in the Sussex Room which was steeped in traditional decor - but had an modern bathroom with a large walk in shower and inviting bath. Upon arrival, we enjoyed a glass of wine by the fire in the sitting room, we had pre-dinner drinks in the cozy bar area and a wonderful dinner and breakfast in the main dining room overlooking the garden and hills beyond. The food was brilliant and the staff very friendly and attentive. We finished our short stay with a Sunday afternoon massage in the spa. Our only complaint is that we had to leave...but we will certainly go back later in the spring.
Friendly front of house and breakfast staff. Beautiful, well-appointed bedroom with nice little touches and a very comfy bed. Common areas have lots of charm. Main drawback is the food, particularly the evening meal, which was below expectations. A pleasing menu was perhaps let down by lack of flavour and service was a little cold and too formal. Breakfast staff were lovely although the food offering again below expectation from an otherwise very nice hotel. Spa was great, included a pool which goes outside, a couple of hot tubs one outside, a sauna and a steam room and not too busy.
Fawlty Towers is alive! The spa is excellent, the hotel is poor value given the price of a room £285. The hotel service is awful - if you are going to charge the same price for a Remy Martin £32 as a 5 Star Mayfair hotel, then you'd better have the service to match it. I had to point to the bottle on the shelf, it was then served in a tumbler! The Best Bitter had been in the fridge and was ice cold. The bar is not staffed, so have to go and find someone to serve, the fire was not lit, so room was chilly. Lacks atmosphere and ambience. The room itself was dated, the furnishings too. There was no mirror or shower in the bathroom and lighting was poor. Opened the curtains but as no frosted glass, anyone in the car park can see in. The windows were chipped and have black mould. The food is excellent, but we had to ask for the wine. There is no background white noise, so once restaurant begins to empty, you can hear everyones conversation. The hotel needs updating decor & furnishings and the staff need training is hospitality Calvados is not a rum!!!. Basically, the hotel is stealing a living off the spa. Trying to understand the bill on checkout was way too hard, nothing itemised and 12% service charge added to everything, even though the bar service was pure Fawlty Towers. Chatted to a few members in the spa and the comment is that Management is arrogant and does not listen plus ignores maintenance issues, that then become problems e.g. the sauna was not working, the sprinkler system had leaked for months and eventually they had to refit the entire sauna.
Lovely area, surroundings and view, quirky room, fab food. Service was ok, a tad obsequious from one or two hotel staff at times which made us a little uncomfortable. The spa unfortunately ruined part of my birthday surprise - a couples massage, which my husband had booked. We were told they had no couples rooms available, and spa staff didn't seem phased by having spoiled my birthday surprise, or even owning up to their mistake or making it right. The attitude was a bit disappointing to say the least. We were given a free bottle of sparkling wine by way of apology but it didn't make up for spoiling our day together. I also had a manicure and pedicure which were rather overpriced for what they were. Particularly the pedi. £60 for an hour and my feet left as rough as when they entered. Nails polished and a nice foot massage but the whole point of a pedi is that you leave with your feet soft smooth and polished. For that price I'd have expected much more. On the whole, I'd probably not recommend the Spa for any treatments though the pool area was lovely when screaming kids weren't running around!.
Very poor in many ways. Our room was expensive and we were promised great views- scaffolding took up half our window and wet paint stickers were stuck all over the other side of the window. On second night we chose 2 courses and the dessert was burnt and inedible. We had booked dinner bed breakfast but informed them first thing next morning that we would eat out on our third and final night and expected to pay b/b only rate. The breakfasts were poor with low quality eggs and cheap sliced bread. When we paid the bill the Manager had reduced the last nights charge by just £3 instead of the £70 we had paid for dinner for the first two nights. I refused to pay the bill unless they took off the second nights dinner charge and eventually they reduced the bill accordingly. Our room had a lounge with large screen tv. The problem was that the sofa facing the tv was so uncomfortable - the cushions were well worn out and it felt like we were sitting back on solid wood so we couldn’t use the lounge. Finally when paying the bill I told the Manager I was surprised they hadn’t adjusted the bill for the very poor meal with the burnt baked Alaska and fondant. He dithered and muttered that he’d have to discuss with higher management. I’ve heard nothing since his comment. This is the first negative review I’ve ever given - if things haven’t been right in hotels/ restaurants etc in the past, I simply don’t go back. A negative review is damaging to a business but in this instance, I warn my fellow travelers to Stay Clear if I Were You! The hotel has mostly lovely staff but integrity and decent food are alien to the management. S Jacobs
Beautiful location, but our room was in need of a complete deep clean and very tatty, the spa was ok, not luxury, the sauna and flotation tank was not working, and my manicure was over priced, at £67 and within an hour my varnish had smudged Rooms: The room we stayed in was very tatty, over priced, and in need of a deep clean, rusty leaking radiator in the bathroom
