The ratings here are fantastic, and the signs promise customers a “taste of Athens.” The restaurant is pleasant and welcoming. Our expectations were high. We ordered a couple basic Greek dishes. Service was relatively attentive. Drinks were good. But the food disappointed us hugely. Instead of the flavors of Greece, our food had the bland tastelessness of a chicken salad sandwich purchased at a roadside Tesco Express. Presentation was good. Taste was lacking. So sad.
Staff were very friendly and professional. There was a nice cosy atmosphere in the restaurant, and the decor was very appealing. Food was excellent, as this was my 1st visit to a Greek Restaurant I thought I’d start with the Moussaka, and it didn’t let me down. It was delicious. Though unfortunately I couldn’t finish it as the serving was huge. This was accompanied by a lovely Greek Beer - Mythos. We would definitely return to Elia on our next visit to Glasgow.
Great food and service. We ordered Taramosala sea food dip starter and Mousaka traditional greek fav, grilled chicken for main course. Portion sizes were big enough to satisfy us. Will def visit again whenever we are back.
This place is an old favourite of ours, although not been in for about 3 years, from its large plates of food to its reasonable priced wine. Would have liked the tempura courgettes a wee bit crisper, but they were still very tasty. The Soufrito was excellent as was the Steffado which was enormous, being very tender and absolutely delicous. If you get a window seat, you get the bonus of watching over George Squares passing life. We will be back. Oh yes, forgot to say the garlic bread is amongst the best anywhere.
It was awful. Long wait 1hr between tinny starters and main courses. Needed to remind them. Staff were nice but the quality of the food was an insult to the Greek. Calamari were chewey, not fresh. Greek salad w no dressing. The main courses were just for reheating. I really don't understand what took them an hr to serve ? The fried cheese smelled rotten. Too much unexpected herbs in the meatballs and got all rejected by my kids. In fact, they were not hot as if they were recycled from another reject. The waiting staff were too keen to recommend alcohol so as to cover the delay in service and poor quality food. Very disappointed. Will never go again and strongly recommend to avoid. Reply : please understand that if main courses arrived an hr after starter that means my kids have been waiting for 1.5hrs+ for their dinner. The reason why I said the meatballs tasted like recycled is because apparently the spaghetti was hot but when I bit in the meatballs, they were not hot and cold inside. And FYI I have been to Greek and Crete more than twice, even home stayed w Greek family, so I know what home taste is like. Thank you.
a great find, never come across this gem of a place before .... great service, lovely atmosphere, amazing food and wine, reasonably priced too for city centre .... can't wait to visit again and recommend to friends
Great restaurant with good choice of food. Friendly fast and helpful staff. Well worth a visit
This place was really good, very friendly service. good quality food, was really good, the appetizer i had in the photo “don’t remember the name” it was smoked aubergine, the taste was yummy, i have tried the Lebanese version, the Turkish, nothing beat this one. really delicious, if i go glasgow again i will definitely go there again. Thank you for the experience
This was without doubt the best meal out I've had in a while. Everything was delicious. We had bread & olives with oil and balsamic dip which was complimentary. These were the best olives I've had. Not overly bitter and really tasty. We ordered the Taramosalata seafood dip and the Melitzanosalata smoked aubergine dip which came with fresh baked pitta bread. Both dips were really fresh and tasted amazing. I also was going to order the Grilled Haloumi Cheese, however our server Dimitri recommended the Kefalotyri Cretan Cheese, lightly fried and he was right... bloody delicious!! So if you go its definitely worth the extra £1.25 For mains we had chicken breast from the grill and Pork chop on the bone. Both with chips and salad. The food was absolutely fantastic. A really lovely restaurant with an authentic Greek look and feel to it. Dimitri was lovely and service was great. The cost of the bill was also reasonable for the portion size of what we had. Will definitely be back.
In Glasgow for business and stumbled upon this restaurant by chance. Being Valentine's Day wasn't too hopeful I would get in but staff managed to accommodate me. It only got better and better. Service outstanding, food absolutely exceptional. Didn't feel out of place one bit as I was the only one by myself. Had the melitzana, keftedes and dolmades, followed by baklava and Greek coffee washed down by a large Keo. The melitzana especially was as good as any taverna in Greece would serve. Portions are large but prices are very reasonable for a restaurant that is bang slap on George Square. It's only a shame I could not taste everything that there was on the menu and that the great British weather does not replicate a Greek taverna on the beach. Cannot wait to go back.
