Stayed here for 2 nights on a recent visit to Sizewell from the states. Was suggested the Holiday Inn but selected Novotel for its proximity to train, rental car and walkable food options. 100% recommend train from London to Ipswich then rental car if headed further North/EastnnHotel exceeded my expectations. For the level of hotel/expected service, it was a 5-star experience. I disagree with some of the reviews, which while minor inconveniences, aren't the end of the world or entirely their fault.nnHotel was updated enough that it didn't feel old or dingy/dirty. Room itself was nice and plenty big. My only complaint was the shower was very, very slow draining and I had to take under 3 minute showers or It'd flood the bathroom.nnFront desk staff was really nice and accommodating. They allowed us to check-in early and helped explain the parking. Yes. We couldn't find a spot 1 night but the other lot was a 3 minute walk away and I'm not knocking a star off over 7 quid.nnThe bartender/manager for lunch and breakfast was really, really accommodating and attentive. I got the breakfast 1 of the morning and it was really good with a wide variety of hot and cold options. The thing I was probably most shocked about was my lunch. After flying all night and taking the train in, I decided to just eat at the bar. Expected typical slightly overpriced hotel bar quality. But the Chicken Curry was absolutely amazing. For £15, it was like something you'd get at a way nicer restaurant.nnOverall, very good experience and met/exceeded expectations for the level of hotel booked.
Great location with easy access to waterfront restaurants. All the staff we met at the hotel were welcoming. The family room we stayed in was super spacious and quiet, despite facing the roundabout. The mattress and pillows were all comfortable.nnIf I had to mention the cons, there were three minor issues. A bad smell came from the bathroom drain—we had to keep the bathroom sink stopper closed to stop the slight stench. The air conditioner made quite loud noise. Fortunately, we only needed to turn it on for a few minutes; it would be very hard to fall asleep with that level of noise on a hot summer night. Last but not least, the floor lamp near the TV/desk was controlled by the same switch as the headboard background light. This meant that when I turned off the headboard light to help my kid sleep, my husband struggled to get enough light to work at the desk. Among these three cons, the light issue was the most inconvenient problem we had. I wish they could separate the switch for the floor lamp.nnBreakfast definitely above the standard. Over all we enjoyed our stay.
I have been coming here year after year and once again I’ve had another excellent stay in this wonderful hotel, great and lovely staff, beautiful spacious and clean rooms, an extensive breakfast and in a great location in the center of Ipswich and less than a 10-minute walk from the station. Ipswich Town FC football ground is a 5-minute walk. Harwich is only 45 minutes away. It is always a pleasure to be here and I don't know why I would ever choose any other hotel in Ipswich, for me it’s a home away from home !!
Very basic hotel but very functional. Comfortable bed, array of electric charging points with usb and all items you would want for your stay. Good little gym with the basics and the breakfast was basic but satisfactory and what you would expect from a buffet in a chain hotel.
Enjoyed my stay, handily situated for my Friday evening tour of some of Ipswichs finest real ale pubs, Saturdays visit to the football ground to watch Derby and it's about a 10 to 15 minute walk from the train station.nBuffet breakfast was good and staff that I had contact with were helpful and friendly.
