This is my second semester at Northumbria University. I’m studying music, and I’m very grateful to have it in my life. The programme fits my aims very well, and the faculty is amazing.
I’m a student at the London campus in this prestigious university but it is quite sad as to how students are being treated here.nCame in 30mins by 8am early and was extremely pressed and needed to use the restroom urgently, started seeing my period and needed urgent change….and these guys just refused to open the doors till 8.30am!!!!!! This is a terrible experience and I honestly wish the Student Union can look into this issue. The receptionist blatantly refused to open the doors and I’m here soaked in menstrual pain and discomfort while they look at me through the window unperturbed. This is really truly a traumatic experience as a woman.
I am truly grateful for the exceptional service and support provided by the university. From dedicated staff to efficient processes and genuine care for students’ success, every interaction has exceeded my expectations. I highly recommend this university for its commitment to excellence!
I’m a student living in Glenamara House, managed by Northumbria University and Sodexo. Since the day I arrived, the conditions have been unacceptable the flat was dirty, the lift has been out of service for weeks, and now there’s no heating or hot water. The university keeps blaming Sodexo, but I pay my rent directly to Northumbria, so they should also take responsibility. I’ve sent many emails and complaints, but nothing changes. The rent is extremely high for what we’re getting. Honestly, it’s been a very disappointing and stressful experience.
I transferred to Northumbria university from another uni, and I very much regret it.nnI am doing English lit and creative writing and have felt very disappointed and let down. After two years here, I don't want to attend anymore. I feel very discouraged.nnThe university has a big problem with seemingly taking issues seriously at first then dismissing them once you talk about them properly.nFor a university that pushes for inclusivity, it really feels like nothing but lies.nThere are many issues, too many to write here. But I feel disheartened. As I've wasted time and money.nnI had problems from the start, when I applied through clearing they were not clear to me, despite calling several times. They did not tell me that I needed to apply as an international student rather than through UCAS which makes no sense, as I am not international.nThe information was always unclear, conflicting and they wouldn't answer my questions properly.nThe administration is terrible and incredibly disorganised.nnI was going to wait to write this after I left, but I'm still here, hating it and incredibly frustrated. So I'll say this now as professionally as I can: I'm extremely sick and tired of having people seemingly be receptive and caring at first, only to dismiss me down the line.nnI also experienced targeted discrimination and harassment as an autistic queer disabled woman. Bullying, ableism and misogyny via people in my class. When I reported this, it was not taken seriously by the uni at all and dismissed, being told to just ignore it.nDespite the fact that misogyny and harassment against women is now a major issue due to online radicalisation , Northumbria University clearly doesn't care about that.nnI also find it interesting to note that lecturer who dismissed me and told me to move on is very vocal on social media about discrimination issues that affect them, but when a student is affected by their own discrimination, they aren't bothered.nnThe management of the university is dreadful. I was confirmed to have received a PEC for my work only to have almost failed because apparently I wasn't? Nothing is clear here at all.nnAlso the attendance is awful, at points only 4 people would turn up myself included and lectures were often called off due to low attendance. There has been a very depressing and unencouraging atmosphere. The lectures feel very jaded and unhappy.nnThe socities are also terrible. The neurodivergent society in particular was not a welcoming or kind space for those who were neurodivergent. There was nowhere to go, no support and I felt completely alone, and still do.nAnother thing to note is that there are events which take place, such as graduation celebrations and others that are hugely disruptive to those of us trying to work. There is loud music playing, constant bag checks and huge crowds blocking entrances and spaces which makes coming in to lecturers impossible, especially as a disabled person. Once again as with everything else, the uni took zero consideration or attention to my concerns.nnOverall, I feel very unsatisfied with this uni. It's been incredibly depressing. Making me feel like a number or a statistic, giving money to a business rather than a place that cares about it's students learning and wellbeing.
