We loved our stay at No.1 on Christmas Night. All of the staff were lovely and helpful. The room was beautiful - great touches with the robes, record player, coffee pod machine. Provided Bathroom products were lovely too. Shower pressure was very weak though. The complimentary pantry filled with snacks + sparkling water was a real highlight. Bar area / reception is cosy and welcoming. Great selection of wines and cocktails available. Short walk into the centre of York. Would highly recommend this hotel, we will be back!
The staff were all lovely and the rooms were well furnished. We had the normal guest room, it was a good size with a big bath tub and separate shower. We had a little sofa and a big 4 poster bed. The only problem was that the walls were quite thin and the staircases are quite noisy. We could even hear someone snoring next door. Nevertheless we were only bothered by this on the first night so it did not disrupt our stay.nnIt was about a 15 minute walk to the centre of York so very convenient.nnThe pantry was a great additional feature for our snack cravings - there was popcorn, crisps and ice-cream and cakes would appear in the morning.nnThe Christmas decorations were tasteful and pretty. The whole hotel had a cozy feeling to it and it was always toasty and warm. The bar has a train that moves round the ceiling about once an hour which was so cute! Overall would definitely recommend staying here :
The location of this hotel is amazing, easy to walk to all the main sights in York, our car didn't leave the car park the 3 days we were there!.nThe staff at the hotel are the greatest asset, nothing was too much trouble at all whilst we were there. They are all attentive, without being overly so, helpful and happy to have a chat and give ideas and suggestions of places to visit.nThe spa was delightful, we both had treatments, didn't feel rushed at all, and it felt a truly personal service.nThe pantry is a great idea, always replenished and great for snacks/munchiesnBreakfast was very good, again all the servers were attentive, the food was very good. We ate one evening in the Pearly Cow and the duck was divine.nThe only less positive feedback I would say relates to the room, it was looking a little tired in some places. It was quite warm, we did try the air con but couldn't quite figure out how to use it properly so reverted to old school with the window open. The bathroom was a little tight for two people to be in there at the same time. The only other feedback would be a lack of drawers in the room - we were staying 3 nights so had quite a lot of clothes that we had placed around the room. But most importantly, the bed was super comfortable and we slept well.nWe would highly recommend the hotel!
We had an overall very poor experience. Service was severely lacking with issues prior to and on arrival- the receptionist couldn’t have cared less to help us and never followed up with the manager as promised. I heard her giving the same stock answer to someone complaining when we were checking out. We were advised in advance to just arrange a dinner time on arrival but were told there was no availability at all when we arrived- having booked a dinner, bed and breakfast deal this is just bizarre and awful management. We ended up eating very early thanks to the porter who was the only star at the property. The restaurant had run out of sparkling water, nonalcoholic beer, fish, seafood platter, heritage potatoes… not necessarily a big issue if this was flagged on arrival rather than every time we asked for one of them! The bar is tiny for the property size and there was no space to enjoy it, although it looked nice.nnOur room was extremely noisy, next to the pantry and you could hear people and doors slamming every 10-15mins, despite having asked in advance for a quiet room as I’m pregnant. I hardly slept.nnOverall I wouldn’t recommend- extremely overpriced for what it is and the service provided.
This is without doubt a beautiful hotel in a good location. The communal areas are tastefully decorated and the pantry is a nice extra touch. The staff were very friendly and helpful, and we enjoyed our food in the restaurant. However, we felt our room was on the small side, despite having booked a ‘large’ room, and the biggest criticism is the lack of sound-proofing. We could hear every footstep from above and outside, and the noise from the traffic on the main road was very loud, so don’t expect a lie in, unless you bring ear plugs! Also, the room was extremely hot and the AC didn’t appear to work even though it sounded like it was on? Consequently, I got very little sleep.
