Attended the festival finale on bank holiday Monday. This event is the culmination of a fantasy festival of brass bands that play in the bandstand throughout the summer. As usual it did not disappoint. Fantastic event. Music, dancing, acrobatics and a laser and fireworks display to end the evening.nAlso reasonably priced food and drink stalls.

The food places are amazing, the barge cafe and the Thai restaurant were amazing friendly service, good food.however the castle ruins could have missed out on, 5 minutes walk around and 3/4 covered by metal fencing as repairs are being undertaken

Located on the edge of Newark town centre and on the River Trento, this picturesque site is mostly one wall but is impressive nonetheless. There is a large car park on Tolney St which is is £3 for 3 hours, and free for three hours to blue badge holders who park in a designated disabled bay. There are a couple electric car charging bays. There are also toilets radar key needed for disabled toilet and a place to buy coffee/drinks in a brick building at the edge of the car park. It’s about a 5 minute walk to the castle and gardens, and the riverside park is right across the street. There are toilets in the castle grounds. No admission fee for the castle and gardens. Wheelchair users need to access the castle by going to Great North Road and on to Castle Gate. This is because if you go through the Riverside Park you have to cross two bridges that have steps. The area of the castle and gardens is step free. On the day we went 27/6/24 there was work being done on the main wall so access the the river side walk of the outer wall was closed.

Currently July 2024 having some restoration carried. Which is good. Pleasant gardens. Excellent views over the Trent.

We had all four season in one day but still enjoyed the Newark Castle! A decent walk from the car park & crossing the river bit gives you a great opportunity to view the castle ruins from all angles. And the view when you got up there was well worth it
