Plenty of parking can be peaceful depending on the time you visit. There is a well maintained boardwalk for easy access routes for wheelchairs/scooters and pushchairs. There are some soft sandy routes that are not suitable for wheelchairs as you will most likely to get stuck. Apart from the short boardwalk routes, there is plenty of beautiful scenery to enjoy and relax to.
Nice place for a walk. Not very busy, little car park available too. Great walk, beautiful views, plenty of different animal species to spot. Fantastic poster about keeping dogs on the leads. It should be mandatory on all NT sites. Also good idea with spray painting dog poos to show people how they are leaving the site behind them.
What a beautiful part of the county to visit! Parking is also cheap, £1 per hour or less if booking longer. Wellies highly recommend unless very dry outside.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
We went on guided tour organised by the Hardy Orchid Society with Darren, one of the Trust rangers, who was very helpful and knowledgeable. The site is stunning with very diverse flora and fabulous views. LOVED the architect designed welcome centre. Thanks for a brilliant tour. The site is massive with a good amount of parking. There aren’t any public toilets that I’m aware of.
Amazing place to visit and take your dog for a walk down the smash beaches. The tide can come in quite quickly so if our exploring the sands just be aware, but lovely to sit on the sand banks and just relax. Does cost for parking but around £1 per hour so not to bad. Wellies I would recommend unless really warmVisited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
Amazing experience doing field work on the dunes. Saw endangered species and my biological knowledge was enriched.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo wait
A very quiet, picturesque beach with a vast expanse of wet sand beyond the initial stones and pebbles. A safe place for little ones to play when the tide is out as the main body of water is so far out, but there are little streams running through for them to paddle in. My little one enjoyed collecting shells and investigating all the stones. The carpark was fairly full despite there being very few people in sight, and this appears to be because it's a good place to walk dogs so people quickly vanish into the distance.
A beautiful and peaceful reserve. When we visited en route to an event at Dalton 4x4 the tide was out and conservation areas had been marked out for the Natterjack Toads. The carpark was fairly large and luckily had 2x spaces for vehicles that couldn't fit in the carpark due to the height restriction barrier.Visited onWeekendWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
A nice little car park, beautiful scenery and lovely initial walkways mean that everyone can enjoy the views. Once the walkways end a trip into the sand dunes for those who are able rewards walkers with a fabulous taste of the Cumbrian coast. Dog-friendliness: Lots of dog walkers with lots of space for furry friends
This area changes every day, unlike biologically dead lake Windermere, due to the vast amounts of untreated sewage being pumped into it daily miles of deserted beaches, the a vast diversification of wildlife, off the beaten track to say the least, but if you want true tranquility, walk to the duddon estuary, around 500 yds and just enjoy.
