Really nice place to see. Gardens are lovely and full of flowers, and they are well maintained. There is plenty of car parking, but it does fill up quickly. Cafe on site is nice with plenty of seating both inside and outside. You can hire rugged mobility buggies onsite. I'm not sure if it's all year round. Nice gift shop. There is also a plant shop.and a second hand book shop.as well. Walks through the woods are nice and not to steep. Some of the walks will take you up some inclines that are a little steep in places. The house tour is really interesting, and the upper levels have an interesting gallery of clothing. It is a good place to take children and adults.
I wouldn't say this is the best National Trust house as I felt the children's museum part on the 1st floor was not for me. However, the rest of the house and grounds were absolutely stunning. The best parts of the site had to be the summer house and the church, as both of these were unexpected to see and so beautiful! There were lots of children activities to keep them busy during our visit, from Frisby Golf, dress up, and finding fake mice around the ground floor of the house. Just like every other National Trust site, I highly recommend visiting if you're in the area.
We were lucky enough to visit on a sunny day. The gardens are well maintained and spectacular. The house is quite small but very interesting, certainly worth a visit. The plants for sale were healthy and varied.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
Lovely day out, explored the house and formal garden then tea and Lovely cake. Followed the footpaths and found the memorial cross, bear hut and ice house. Spent some time in the Chapel with the sun coming through the beautiful stain glass window. Browse in the gift shop and plant area. Well worth the visit and very friendly and helpful staff.
Lovely house and gardens, although some very steep paths if you're walking beyond the formal gardens and house. Plenty of parking and a couple of cafes, serving the usual national trust fayre. Some beautiful flower beds, with information on what's growing. There were also a number of children's games provided across the grounds which we loved. As a warning, plan your route, we used the SatNav and ended up on roads not much wider than the car! But recommend a visit!
Lovely place to visit. Huge selection of plants on sale and the usual National Trust café on entry. Fascinating house and huge grounds. Beautiful little chapel and a bear hut to explore. The flowers were in bloom while we were there. There was a kitchen café in the house which sold hot food as well as snacks. Well worth a visit.
An estate with a lovely garden with displays detailing each plant and a pleasant house, but the tale of the Acland family and the gardens are the main drawVisited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
Seeing how the gentry looked after their servants, gave them jobs, housing and generally had their interests at heart. Lovely grounds, great to walk around the estate & visit the chapel.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
It was great place to visit, especially for a day out. I particularly loved the garden tour which tells a story how the garden of this property developed sonce 1770. I would advise you not to play the paino in the music room. I was playing it for 2 min after watching other person playing. One volunteer approched me to stop it. Probably my playing was really bad assuming he indirectly mentioned that my play was loud. That was very embarrassing moment… i also got a lesson from this event not to play outside. Apart from that everything was perfect. Highly recommend garden tour takes approx 1 hr and totally worth it. There are many areas where you can have picnic. Garden is a little hilly, and various species.
Great for walking. Beautiful grounds, mixture of woodland, landscape gardens and fields. There are paths suitable for everyone as well as off path walking for something more challenging. There's a large car park and cafe. You can also visit the house, but I didn'tVisited onWeekendWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNot sure
