After walking through a graveyard and a field. We finally arrived at Clyston Mill. This is still a working mill and produces flour which is sold to the general public and also supplies to various businesses in the area as well as Killerton house. The Mill is interesting and there is lots of information available about the property. The Mill itself is privately owned but is run by the National Trust. If it is wet. There is a lane to this property. Otherwise you will need boots to walk through the graveyard and adjacent field.
Old semi-working flour mill which used to be part of killerton estate. Water wheel powers the usual mill machinery from seed hoist to mill wheel. Still produces stoneground flour for sale. Bit if a walk through churchyard to reach mill down on River Clyst. Park close to town hall in Broadclyst cross road and enter churchyard past pub. Free to NT members.
Lovely fully working water powered mill which produces flour for sale, entrance a little bit over priced at £5.80 but good if you have a national trust card
Tricky to find if you're new to the area, but the experience is certainly unique. The property and mill is owned by a couple, but is protected by the national trust. The couple went on to tell us that they had previous sold flour produced by the mill but since Covid had failed to do so. Really hope they find their footing, and whether you want to try something new or just show some support I would certainly recommend it if you're out and about in Clyst Honiton. Ps there are friendly sheep in the field getting to the place
This was a lovely little place, in a beautiful location. It was a little tricky to find, which made it all the more fun! Having to look out for little signs while walking through a church grounds, through a little wooden door at the back, across a small field. It just made the whole experience even more intriguing. The millers are lovely, and the lady was happy to have a chat about the mill. It’s nice seeing a national trust building being used for what it was intended, and being looked after in such a way. It’s also good if you’re busy, as it is quite small, so won’t take up too much of your time to explore.
Very interesting mill dedicated volunteers
Lovely couple live here love to share history of the mill.
Interesting Victorian mill - still operating, though flour is usually only milled on a Sunday afternoon. Flour is for sale. Quite a walk from the recommended free car park - but you do go past a decent pub.... Mill is quite expensive to visit at £5.80.
Nice welcome, interesting mill. Lovely rural location and walk. Park your car near the pub by the church, go through the cemetry and then take the long way back.
Not a lot to see but nice to see it's still running
