Best to go in early spring / summer as the gardens are in bloom and the paths will be drier in places. It's a nice walk for a couple of hours, but that is it. There are toilets onsite and a very limited gift shop at the entrance. There are plans to expand into another part of the area in the future.Visited onWeekendWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
One of the smaller national parks however just as amazing and beautiful. The park is located in Macclesfield and privides plenty of parking and wonderful cows as views over the fields. As we park up there is a little shop where we pay/show national trust passes for entry. The little shop sell hot and cold drinks as well as ice cream from snugburys too! Hare Hill is a lovely walk to beautiful gardens and the best play area for children. Where the swing is hung by a tall tree and a strong log as a seat. They have made little houses/huts from wood for the children to play in. Better than the usual parks as it is all natural - the simple things in life are just the best! Gorgeous flowers are bloomed with a large garden free for children to run around in. The park and toilets are clean and benches and picnic tables are located everywhere to eat and relax on. A MUST VISIT!
Lovely place to visit and if you go when the wisteria is in bloom it's a real treat. Just be aware it's not somewhere you'd spend a lot of time at, unless you take a picnic and have it in the walled garden.
Nice little woodland/garden walk with a few ponds, small wooded play area and small hut to grab a coffee
12,/09/2021 Love walking around hare hill looking at the tree's that's fallen or the quirkiness of the tree branches bending & retooting back into the ground & back out again they give some  character to the place as you walk around & the garden it self behind the 4 walls is beautiful to see in all 4 seasons as it looks different in summer spring autumn & winter Nice to chill out just by the 3 ponds that join together & listen to the birds in the trees if your lucky you might see the odd squirrel about or ducks in the ponds There are 5 or 6 table benches inside the grounds where you can have a picnic if you want Car Park is spacious split into 3 parts Free Car Parking Disabled Car Spaces Car Park is made up of gravel & stones so not really disabled friendly if your in a wheelchair Ground around the garden inside the 4 walls are Disabled Friendly for wheelchairs but if you walk around the outer garden into the trees it's not Disabled Friendly at all as the pathways go from brown sandy gravel to bark so if it's a wet day might be best to wear wellies Clean Restrooms on site behind the wall as you head into the wooden area there's even a second hand book shop that you can buy books from with a donation box near by Staff are Friendly & Polite The National Trust wooded garden contains over 70 varieties of rhododendron, plus azaleas, hollies, and hostas. At its centre is a walled garden containing a pergola and wire sculptures. A permissive path leads from the garden to the ridge of Alderley Edge. The garden is open to the public at advertised times; there is an admission charge.[2] The garden was owned by Col. Charles Brocklehurst until his death in 1981. Col. Brocklehurst was advised by the plantsman, James Russell. The Georgian mansion was sold by the Trust in 1978 to help finance the running of the gardens. The owner of the garden was a great rhododendron enthusiast and steadily introduced them into the garden from 1960 onwards. The climate and soil has allowed them to flourish here. The Trust has replaced many of the common purple variety with more colourful and exotic varieties and has extended the season for visiting the garden by planting roses, lacecaps, euchryphia and hydrangeas, although the early interest is already sustained by snowdrops, daffodils, a huge clematis Montana, Skunk Cabbage and magnolia. The walled garden with its numerous climbers features a large lawn without a centrepiece. The main feature of the garden is the collection of over 50 hollies, silver and golden leaved and yellow and orange berried varieties, including the rare Highclere holly.
Not much there other than the walled garden & a bit of a walk. Glad we're members or would've been really disappointed having paid £9!Visited onPublic holidayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
Lovely place. It's quite a small property but the gardens are beautiful and it's nice to take a picnic and sit on the grass. Nice views over towards Manchester and the countryside from around the site. No refreshment facilities the day we visited but we had taken our own so this wasn't a problem. Car parking was improved since last time I'd visited.
It was windy when we visited but these gardens are really sheltered. A great place to walk without getting blown away! The National Trust have clearly been busy as the gardens are looking even better than when we visited in 2020. In late March the daffodils are out and even a couple of the early rhododendrons are flowering.
Beautiful gardens & woodland. We enjoyed a few peaceful hours last week when it was very warm. The Walled garden was perfect for a picnic...followed by a woodland walk
A lovely tranquil garden/forest walk. Not to big and easy to walk around. It was not over crowded so felt like there was plenty of space.
