Beautiful gardens! Interesting visit to the castle itself. We had picnic before we set exploring the grounds. Plenty of play areas for children too. Great for family day out or for just grown ups. Worth a visit.

This is a wonderful house/castle to tour. As with other National Trust houses we have toured, there were plenty of volunteers to answer questions and a plethora of information on the rooms and items. There is so much history with the house, it was interesting to see how they presented them in the different rooms. It is a very large castle and I would say we had access to half of the house. There are still resident apartments at the site, but we did not get to see these. The grounds are expansive and the garden was an interesting experience. Our teenagers also found the house and history interesting. Plan 3-4 hours for the typical house and garden tour....longer if you take the trails. Parking was free.

Lots of space for children to have a good time. Quiz in the house really interesting for children also looking for certain cuddly toy through out the house. The people who are are around the house have wonderful information and only willing to discuss also with the children. There is a lot to do so you may need more than one day to really appreciate everything. Food, coffee and service good.

Pleasant little castle with very ornate stately home. Not much garden to talk about but it was nice to walk the grounds despite the rain. They do little classes in bring a peasant soldier for kids. It was very cute watching them march around the square.

Excellent place to go for the whole family. There is a children's wild play area for den making by the car park. The castle is full of interesting things for children and adults. The dungeon has resident archers and knights. Nice cafe as well. Word of warning around Easter it is still extremely wet. Wellies and spare clothes a definite requirement at the moment.
