The Castlefield viaduct has been transformed into a peaceful, reflective literally, in places! garden space that is free to all.nIt offers a unique view over Manchester and the planting compliments the worn steel aesthetic of the massive viaduct structure.nThere are plans to extend the 300m run of the gardens so far and there is a model and plans to inform visitors about this at the far end of the gardens.nAccess fromnCastlefield is via a lift or a lengthy staircase. The lift was closed on the Saturday i visited, which will be a problem for some visitors.nThere is a car park on the same level as the viaduct which would allow for wheelchair access but I am not sure where you access this from or the cost. Sorry!
Amazing place! Short wait time but an amazing local free activity run by the national trust. Walking through you could smell all the fresh plants and flowers! Amazing place to just step away from the busy city environment and just think.nnCouldn't recommend coming here more. It is a good activity for people of all ages!
Cool to see in person but didn’t live up to the hype. The community and fund providers are clearly working to make this special, and you can tell there’s a lot of love that wants to be given, but it might take a little work getting it back to beautiful and captivating. Wish the crew all the best with their volunteer work.
We had a lovely guided tour by Ted who was very knowledgeable about the park and the history about the area and Manchester as a whole. Very interesting and engaging.
So long as you don't take the lift if it is working it's a moderate work-out getting up there. On a sunny day it's interesting with some interesting views over Manchester and Salford but it is very slightly underwhelming, almost as if it's not quite finished but you don't know what's left to do. Access to the trams is good as well so you can easily get anywhere on the Metro.
