I thought there would be a bit more history about Wales like the Scottish national museum has. It's just Natural museum with stuffed animals and mineral stones and dinosaurs. It's not a bad museum, just not what I was expecting from it. Like even if I have to pay, I'd rather go to a zoo instead. Why isn't it called Natural museum of Cardiff? I wanna know!
Went around the art gallery section located on the upper floor. Great varied collection of artwork - many that look through the lens of Welsh culture and history of coal mining in Wales. Unique viewpoints and history to learn about - very informative and enjoyable experience. Free to visit and see majority of the art gallery section.
Firstly, it's free, though they happily accept donations.nYou can while away a good few hours here and they have various activities available for children.nI went specifically to see the Valleys exhibition, thoroughly enjoyed it! Here are a few photos, plus one of Tom Jones which was a winner of Portrait Artist of the Year.
This is a great historical museum! Kids will love seeing all the natural history exhibits, including dinosaurs, rocks, and crystals. There's so much to explore, and the museum is quite large – we easily spent 3-4 hours there. It's convenient that they also have a shop, restaurants, and restrooms on-site.
Amazing beautifully decorated Museum.nWe came on a Saturday and didn't need to prebook at all.nCompletely free to go in and we made a donation to visit the Selfie Gallery where we saw 2 pieces of Vincent Van Gogh art work.nStaff are friendly and very knowledgeable.nDisabled and child friendly too.nWell worth a visit.
