Really love this place, can't believe that I have only been here once. Shall definitely be returning. They had a fantastic exhibition of fossils and animals. When we were there, they also had an Astronomy Society there with display of their telescopes, cameras and lenses. Also worth mentioning is the cafe which served wonderful coffee and had dairy and Gluten free cake options. Well worth a visit and totally free!

I remember coming here when I was very little and the trip did not disappoint. This time we came with a very young child. Exhibits are well laid out and informative. While probably still to young to fully appreciate everything the little one really enjoyed looking at the prehistoric animals. We will be coming back again in a few years time when we are most likely to have a dinosaur and creepy-crawlies expert on our hands.

Fantastic. Free entry although we did pit the suggested contribution in the collection box, but you aren't harassed to do so. Great collection of art and the time line through Wales was really good, well laid out and informative. There is an on site car park behind the museum that is very reasonable and plenty of on street parking.

A national gem in the heart of the city. Don’t visit as often as like (or should!) - kids always entertained and with a dedicated learning and play section they alway tire themselves out! The Art gallery is always a rewarding wander too! With entry free all I can recommend is you leave a donation on your way out to support the great work - inc. the friendly and insightful staff!

A very grand and quite beautiful building. An interesting narrative on art history - with examples from every era and school. Many paintings that were donated, mostly portraits of long dead (very) rich people, so this does tend towards the "average" in quality. No doubt of historical importance for Wales and the capital city, but not so much for the modern age. The contemporary exhibitions can be very good indeed. So worth checking out to see what's on. The cafe is excellent, (as are the toilets) but the gift shop is too small and would benefit expanding - and setting its sights on something like Tate Modern that mixes small artworks for sale, a huge selection of books, with the usual fridge magnets and postcards. They are very welcoming to kids, and the staff helpful & tolerant. Even if there is no show that attracts your attention it's worth popping in for a coffee & cake - especially if it is raining....which has been known to happen in Cardiff.
