The administration of taxes and pensions in the UK is a joke. Up until the 1990's you used to be able to see someone and discuss issues face to face. A look at Google Maps shows all HMRC offices are now permanently closed to the public. Now you have to wait 40 minutes on the phone before you can speak to anyone. They then inform you they are working on case loads from 30 weeks ago and you need to wait at least this long for a reply to correspondence. How can a country, which runs on public revenues, properly function like this? It's Impossible! Don't kid yourself by thinking otherwise - but the UK has dropped from a 1st to a 3rd World class country. How sad .
Tried to call twice this evening. Listen to the request for a survey to be completed, all the blah blah about cost of living payments. Give my NI number, postcode, dob and told I'm being connected. Then disconnected with a "goodbye". Advertised to be open til 6pm. Presuming they've put a bar on the phone preventing more callers coming through. If that's the case, hire more staff. People like myself are contacting for a genuine reason that we want to resolve but have to call after work hours. Service is a joke
Called 3 times, automated answering machine 3 times, got a little further each time then when I had answered all the questions the line goes dead. Still need to speak to someone for information. Absolute Con of a service 1star is way to good for this service.
Every single time I call I have to repeat myself 4/5 times before the automated voice thing even hears what I'm saying and then procedes to hang up on me for no reason at all. A few times I have been told by HMRC staff that I require my p60 to help figure how much tax I have paid, they have told me that if I get my p60 before them and need to sort my tax out urgently that I can call up and give the details over the phone but yet when I call someone else tells me that I have to wait for everyone's p60 to come in! This is my life that's being affected and half of these people don't even seem like they care.
I was contacting the DIY VAT team to follow up my claim post build. I have sent in my paperwork as instructed, within 3 months of the building completion certificate - over 3 months ago. According to recorded delivery my correspondence arrived on 19-12-22. Preamble message advised me that I should expect to get an acknowledgement within 10 days and payment 30 days thereafter. No sign of either! I phoned a few weeks ago and was advised that my paperwork was probably in storage, there was a back-log and things were taking longer than usual; they couldn't even tell me that my claim was in the system. Today, I can't even get through on the phone - it just said there's too many calls goodbye. Stunning!
Absolutely livid. Waited a hour and 10 minutes to speak to someone. Dave a Scottish man answers asks my name then the line said Goodbye. Dave can't be bothered to help out. Bloody useless.
Very happy with both the customer representatives that I spoke to. I was calling from Australia & compared to some public offices here, was happy that I was only on the phone for about 30 minutes & found the representatives very polite & helpful.

Would give 0* if I can. Sent my documents twice to claim U1 form, never got a confirmation of receive, no emails, nothing. No idea where my personal documents with all my personal details ended up!!! Your incompetence and stupidity cost me lots of money. Many thanks!
THIS IS A DISGRACE THEY PUT THE PHONE DOWN 5 TIMES. I WAS ON FOR 1HOUR 38 MINUTES AND THEY SAY YOUR CALL IS IMPORTANT WHAT A JOKE
