Delightful meal with the wife. The decor looks like it's stuck in 1980s Japan, but we didn't go there for the atmosphere. We went there for the excellent Japanese cooking. Superb. We always enjoy ourselves when we go there. The quality of the fish and the derive was impeccable.
Went here for lunch with colleagues and were glad we arrived in time before the lunch crowd. The option size was reasonable. The dining area is cozy and expect the place to be noisy during rush hour. Had the broiled eel set lunch. The rice was a tad drier than expected. Staff were friendly. If you come during 13:00-14:00, expect long wait and line.
A very authentic Japanese restaurant hidden on Baker Street. Staff were attentive, service was quick, food was delicious. Expect to pay around £60 per person for dinner.
We had a lovely date night at Nambu-Tei for our anniversary. They had good services with lovely staff members. I especially enjoyed the tempura and sashimi platter. I also love the miso soup on the side which was served with the eel rice bowl. However, I probably expected the sushi rice should be more flavourful in another way. Overall, this is one of the best restaurant for people who would like to try authentic Japanese foods with reasonable price in a relaxing atmosphere.
Underwhelming sushi but probably amazing dishes if you order family style food and take what is recommended or can read the Japanese menu. It's a fascinating and charming place... You find it by walking down into a mall-type walkway and it appears on the left. It has a family owned vibe - like friends and family eat there and it needs a re-decoration super badly but people just come for the awesome food so don't care if they dine in 1993. The people there speak Japanese and although I saw a lot of frozen fish coming up from downstairs the extremely authentic family style meals being eaten around me looked really great. Being some random white chick I had no idea what most of the menu meant. I'll be back... I can tell there is this amazing dish waiting to be discovered.
Came here twice in a week! It showed how good this restaurant is. The chefs and restaurant staffs are all Japanese loving the atmosphere the restaurant has offered. They do really good lunch Bento box within £15-£20 budget. Went for the high range one for the variety it has offered. Delicious!
Authentic and good-value Japanese casual affaire! Spacious seating and unpretentious 1990s décor - love it! Fully Japanese waiting staff who are professional, patient and extremely polite. A well chosen Sāke and Soju selection and cooked Japanese homely dishes. An equivalent to a high-end Izakaya or an Yatei Japanese street side Izakayas - but in London! Saw plenty of Japanese business people having group dinners. Must say that their cooked dishes are done far better than their sushi or sashimi offerings. Dishes are still well presented considering the price! Will be a frequent spot for me!
Good quality japanese food, but a bit pricey. The bento sets are about £17. Many to choose from. Lunch sets are also available from £11. Ive been here a few times. can be very busy lunch time.
BBQ eel had a very tender texture and was full of flavour. Would have preferred teriyaki sauce rather than soy sauce on the rice underneath though. Interesting decor and friendly staff. It was very nice being offered a tea when waiting for takeaway.
We returned back to this restaurant as we had fond memories back in 2018, however I feel like it’s gone a bit downhill. We were left waiting at the front for a Non Japanese waitress South Asian who was on the phone but didn’t have strong communication skills. The Japanese waitress was kind and professional and kept pointing out to my husband that if he ordered the chicken tempura set lunch he wouldn’t get Katsu curry. I told her yes we know what Katsu curry is as with usually have it. Not sure if she was trying to convince him to have this dish, anyway my husband gave in and ordered the Katsu curry dish. I enquired whether my tempura set lunch had udon noodles and the waitress was worried as it didn’t. I said it’s fine, I don’t mind if it doesn’t. Anyway, the Japanese waitress told the South Asian waitress what had happened and the South Asian Indian waitress told me, “ You asked for udon but it doesn’t have it.” Anyway, what I have learned is that don’t ask questions because it leads to too much fussing and worrying. By now, I already had a headache. We ordered plum wine which was very tasty but it was poured into a tiny glass in the past I remember a full glass was poured! kind of expensive as each glass was 5 pounds. When my husband got his katsu chicken curry that he was encouraged to try, it had beef chunks in the curry with the chicken katsu curry. He was confused why there was beef and chicken and wasn’t advised on this. My dish was tasty but I couldn’t enjoy it as I felt there were eyes watching me how I ate the food. I didn’t feel comfortable being stared at as we were sitting in the centre and there weren’t many customers. I feel they cared about the way we ate the food correctly and it’s a polite thing, as I’ve lived in Japan.. but it was too much fussing. Felt like a school child. I’m introverted so feeling watched made me very uncomfortable. When we got the bill it was about £37 pounds and we gave a tip. Still not happy the way the Indian waitress was telling me off. I should have walked out, no customers needs telling off. Everyone else was professional and the chef said goodbye. I wouldn’t go back again and regret eating at Phoenix palace for dim sum instead. Oh well, things do change.. a bit of a shame.
