You get what you pay for. It is the cheapest buffet around 9.95 for a all you can eat or 5 for a box. The selection is very limited, not even chicken fried rice on choice. The standards are pretty low. No dogs allowed in but few tables outside to use. Food poor tasting. Good option if you need cheap fill up otherwise probably better to skip.
Don’t come here with high expectations. If you embrace it for what it is - a convenient, cheap option for when you need a quick fill, then it does the trick. Again, not high-quality food, but you won’t find anything cheaper. Buffet service also felt a bit forceful and strict, which didn’t create relaxing environment at all. Was glad to get out with my takeaway container and free myself from this little tavern of stress. Buuuut it was cheap at least!
CASH ONLY. Just reminding everyone ! Anyway, love the wings in particular, good simple choice in a fantastic location. First went in 1995 and have visited regularly.Food: 4/5
The owner called some French Muslims "Stupid!" and mocked Halal food repeatedly! I've been coming to Mr Wu's for 2 decades but my recent visit at 6:30pm on Thursday 28th March really left a sour taste in my mouth. Some French students were serving themselves at the buffet when they suddenly learnt that the meat was not Halal. They didn't ask initially if the food was Halal, but equally there is no clearly visible signage anywhere to state that the meat is not Halal. Upon discovering this, the manager was furious and called the paying customers stupid for not asking, there was zero compassion for their innocent mistake and they were called "stupid" repeatedly and "Halal Halal Halal" in a mocking tone was repeated several times. I felt grossly insulted and ashamed that in a multicultural city, these teenagers had to endure such ridicule in a Soho restaurant. Yes, the food may have had to be wasted, but taking insulting frustration out on international, young, Muslim visitors to the city who clearly didn't speak much English, I thought was disgusting. Additionally, another man of colour was refused tap water by the same manager. All licensed premises have to supply tap water by law and being that water rates are paid regardless, tap water doesn't cost a restaurant any more, but this manager arrogantly was arguing with the man that he knows his job, he won't be told what to do and he won't serve tap water. If he doesn't sell alcohol, ok he doesn't have to provide tap water, but out of sheet politeness and customer service, it would be advisable to do so and if he is worried about profit, charge 50p or something for the service he is providing rather than point blank and angrily refusing. I shall not return to this establishment out of principle for its lack of compassion towards those that wish to eat Halal and for the terrible attitude that I witnessed. I will say that despite this experience, I was seated promptly, I ate 3 plates of food which was nice and there is a decent variety of food available, albeit not Halal or Kosha. I don't feel that this is the place either for vegetarians or vegans, nor those with specific allergies, as all dishes are served next to each other and there's a high risk of cross contamination. Dietary restrictions: THIS IS NOT HALAL OR KOSHA. CROSS CONTAMINATION VERY EASILY DONE HERE AS ALL DISHES IN BUFFET SERVED TIGHTLY NEXT TO EACH OTHER. LIMITED VEGETARIAN OPTIONS AND EVEN MORE LIMITED VEGAN OPTIONS AND ALL NEXT TO OTHER DISHES CONTAINING ANIMALS PRODUCTS Parking: Central London, no nearby parking spaces Wheelchair accessibility: Small venue and tables close to each other, very difficult for wheelchair users or those with mobility issues. Limited seating on the ground level and no lift to go upstairs.
Located in Chinatown, London, the restaurant serves Chinese food. We had a good meal here in Mr. Wu's all-you-can-eat buffet. They have rice and noodles. There was a wide selection of dishes to choose from. There was chicken curry, steamed prawns, roast duck, vegetables, roast pork, etc. The roast duck was certainly very delicious. They had steaming hot soup which was a delight to Asians. To cater for Westerners, they have fries, paella and a few other things. The food is quite good. Price-wise, it is cheap.
Average experience, nothing too bad, nothing too good but an affordable quick and easy tasty treat to keep the tummy full. Never been to Mr Wu Chinese Buffet before, but I thought I'd give it a try. Their enticing window showing the available food, with people scooping different items up and putting them on their plate/in their box is enough to make anyone's mouth water! Nevertheless, the have all the essentials in decent quantities ready for customers to help themselves unlimited if eating in. The buffet at the time of this review is £9.95 and there is no service charge. The takeaway option is £5.00 for one box and is available to all customers. The pricing of both is spectacular in my opinion, the box can be filled with any items you choose and if eating in then you get a plate and it is unlimited. The restaurant is small and tidy but has lots of staff on hand to help. Initially once sat, the waiter said 'pay now pay now' to which was abrupt, but we didn't mind as we're going to pay anyway so why not do it first for once some people have mentioned this in their reviews that the staff were aggressive in doing this tactic but we didn't feel this way, simply a request upfront for payment which I didn't have an issue with. They offered a drinks menu but we didn't need anything. I didn't ask for tap water I had a bottle in my bag but don't plan on drinking inside as the sign tells you not too! A bit draconian, but we just had a sip once outside - not a mega issue but something to definitely consider. The plates weren't that clean nor was the cutlery, I think it was being wiped in the back with a cloth but without proof and it being clean enough to eat off we went up for food. All the food was hot and tasty, the flavour wasn't incredible but it did the job, all for £9.95 each. I managed 5 plates before I felt full, once done, you can simply leave as you've already paid! The buffet does state 1hr 30min seating, but we didn't even come close to this and I don't know if they enforce this. Overall, it is the best value in Chinatown at present guaranteed, as I've checked and compared all the buffets. You don't get prawn/shrimp at this one and the meat offering is limited hence the pricing difference my assumption, but I am fussy and mainly had veggie stuff anyway. The cleanliness is good and they have customer toilets and adequate seating, I'd visit again and recommend it to friends and family too. I thanked the staff when I left, they had smiles and were actually all lovely, you just need to give them a chance and understand that the shouting at first isn't nasty but hasty and they're rushing around! Tip - the takeaway boxes are extremely popular, this means there is almost always a queue at busy times for the boxes. If you're doing buffet eating in, you need to wait in a queue so it can really slow things down. I'd suggest visiting during quieter times or before 8pm really you don't have to but you'll find yourself forever waiting by the surges of tourists and those grabbing the cheapest Chinese takeaway box in the local area! Enjoy for yourselves, I'll definitely go back - no booking needed. To improve the food could be slightly hotter and have more flavour, I'd give the restaurant 2-3 stars but the value for money puts it at a solid 3 star rating. You get to see the choice of food before you go in, so do have a look through the front window and judge for yourself!
For the money, you will struggle to find anything better; we got the buffet for £8.95, and it is incredible value. The menu is a bit limited, but it covers all of the main options for western-style Chinese food, and all of the food is refilled pretty regularly. They only take cash, which some people who tried to come in were annoyed about. Even though we went while it was pretty busy, they had enough seating; we were seated downstairs, and there is extra seating upstairs as well. If you want a drink, it is another £2 again, only cash. Wheelchair accessibility: Not wheelchair accessible, I would recommend going somewhere else. There is not enough space for wheelchairs inside or around the buffet.
i visited this place multiple times during the last 5 years. the food is suprisingly good, but the menu always stays the same - that's a shame. everything is fast and effective Vegetarian options: like 2-3 vege options, excluding chips and potatoes out of prox. 14 options altogether
£5 for a decent sized box that you fill yourself and the ray on outside tables slap bang in Chinatown. What’s not to like.Food: 5/5
Worst restaurant ever. Don’t even bother. Went there for buffet and food was tasteless. Workers are more police like then welcoming to customers. They have zero relationships building skills. It’s like give me the money and bye bye. The workers there work like police and security guard then providing restaurant service. Wrong attitude bad food.
