A nice little place to visit on a clear day, it's a little tricky to get to, having to go through a few side streets. Once there tho it's quite a nice area to stroll around with spaces for a few cars, no facilities tho. There are info boards about the castle plus lovely views once you get up higher, all In all a very pleasant time was had.
I do love mow cop and the walks around are just incredible. We dfound a beautiful 10k route that ended up there. Its a shame some people can't respect the beauty as there's a lot of beer cans bottles and litter. However, it is a beautiful spot and very peaceful
Free car park, good stepped path to the top , no access free to the top. I have a knee issue and needed some help from my partner so even though a short walk to the top some may find it difficult. Views from the top are stunning and well worth a visit for those aloneVisited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
A very pleasant monument / ruins just outside Congleton. I can see it from my house so thought I’d take a look. It’s part of the National Trust but there’s no entrance fee or car park charges. The building itself is impressive with great views over the Cheshire Plains. The steps leading up to the ruin might be a challenge for the elderly or less able-bodied. Especially if it’s raining. Certainly worth a quick visit if you’re in the area.
What an amazing, underestimated and beautiful National Trust protected site this is! We could see 5 counties at the top on this lovely day in August. I hear the best view possible is 7 counties on a cold, clear winter's day.
Stumbled across this place with the kids . Amazing to think that people used to have these whimsical ideas a d want to uo thier picnic game by building a fake castle ruin to hang out in. Nowadays I just decide which meal deal to get. Free parking near the top and great views of the surrounding countryside. We'll worth a visit if you are nearby
Really nice place to sit on a sunny day. It is really well looked after too. The steps could be difficult for the elderly though. The views over Cheshire are amazing. The car park closed at 8pm when I was there so if you're looking to stay later then I'd suggest you park on the road outside. It can get blustery up there so wear appropriate clothing. The car park only had space for maybe 10 cars which was plenty when I was there as there were about 2 other cars at max throughout my stay. A lovely location for a romantic picnic or sun bathing on these recently scorching days we've had. Enjoy.
Built in 1754, Mow Cop was built for Randle Wilbraham as a summer house. Its ruins can be viewed for miles in the surrounding peaceful countryside, as it sits high on a ridge separating the counties of Staffordshire and Cheshire. The National Trust have published a walking trail that keen hikers may wish to explore, to fully experience the castle and the surrounding scenery. There is a car park near by, which I only found when at the castle. Free to walk and wander around, no toilets or facilities only a car park. #mowcopcastle Overall Fabulous Small Castle In Ruins with stunning views across Staffordshire and Cheshire… definitely worth a visit for an hour or so…
Worth a visit! I loved the views high over Staffordshire but it's a very small ruined folly not a Castle. No seating to sit and take in the views sadly. Not for the people with mobility issues. Very small car park.
Lovely but steep place to roam around, great views of Staffordshire and Cheshire, not suitable for wheelchairs or prams as located on rocks. Keep small kids close and hold on!Visited onWeekendWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
