Useless. Half an hour wait to manage a phone call, days of delay in answering very simple email. Staff at reception isn’t prepared at all. Given the cost of a masters at the UoM, this place is a scam.
20th January: I send an email requesting a letter. No response. 27th January: I send another email requesting a letter. No response. 10th February: I send a third email requesting a letter. I receive a response, followed up by the required letter. But it turns out my address is incorrect. I ask for a corrected letter. I receive the following response: "I have to use the information on our system so can't change it I'm afraid." I check the system and it has my correct address. Just 4 hours after their response, I reply stating that the their system has my correct address and that it must have been copied incorrectly. I receive a reply that my case has been closed. It's been over a month and I still don't have the letter. This must be the most incompetent service I ever had to contend with!
Honestly, let's get something straight. Working arrangements due to COVID-19, and hence reduced staff capacity can be an explanation for delays and inefficiency in the replies, NOT an explanation for the incompetence, Student Services Centre. My certificate has been posted to the wrong address, which I would not even know if I have not been contacted by my course administration department. Student Services told me REPEATEDLY that I should arrange a redelivery of the parcel despite me saying that it's too late now. After I said that the letter has been sent back to the sender and I would like to ask whether it will be posted to my new address now, a very competent staff member said "I can give you a tracking number and you can arrange a redelivery". So I repeated kindly 'it has been over 18 days, Royal Main has sent it back. I would like to know whether university have received it from the Royal Mail." Student Services, a very competent, reply "Oh, so I understand that you don't want the tracking number. FINE". Firstly, how rude. Secondly, a very comprehensive "I am sorry for the inconvenience" would be very welcome. So here I am, 20 days after my certificate has been posted to the wrong address, I still have not received it. A very "reassuring" "We will contact you about it" does not do any good, particularly since I sent 4 emails already and "allegedly" it takes 7-10 working days to respond, and of course no response from SSC. I get a very strong feeling that nobody cares in this department. On my last call, a graduate team did not even want to speak with me, I was on hold most of the time. Perhaps, the phrase "World class" should be applied across the campus and a good customer service training for SSC centre would be very welcome.
Charge £10 for a replacement ID card while I pay over £27000 for tuition fee. Brilliant company.
Very slow reply to enquires. It is extremely difficult to get someone answer your call, there is no queue system over phone, so you don't know how long you need to wait.
The staff are very friendly and understanding of foreign students' different grasp of the English language. Even when you find a queue here, it moves very fast. When they can't help you, they send you to someone who can assist you better.
Never respond to emails. Students need to send at least 5-6 follow up emails. The LEAST EFFICIENT people working together, do not care the slightest about students. How could these people work for the students? The WORST student services centre in the world.
Good staff indeed. There is one thing that I dont like. The busiest time throughout every semester will be the lunch time since classes are less likely on that period which students will find it easy to visit student service centre. However, most staffs in this place seems to have luch all at the same time as students. It will be much more efficient if the staffs have their lunch period an hour faster or later. If that is not possible, at least you can try to take turns and have lunch. There are 10desks in total but what I always see is only 2 staffs available at lunch time while 5 available at other times... Even now I can see a lot of staffs enjoying inside and only 2 on the desk while there are 34people waiting for the service. I have been waiting here for more than 30minutes now. Please do something about it.
They never reply to emails and are so slow at answering phone calls. It took me an hour.
Very helpful people. University students can go there with any problem and they have the solution for it. The staff is very friendly and co operative. They never say no to help about anything. Just a little problem is with que management. If that is solved, over all a nice place.
